The Sri Lanka spurfowl (Galloperdix bicalcarata) is an endemic member of the pheasant family found in Sri Lanka’s dense rainforests. This secretive bird is hard to spot due to its size and preference for dense undergrowth, often revealing its presence only through its distinctive ringing call of three-syllabled whistles. A ground nester, the spurfowl lays 2-5 eggs in a scrape. It measures about 37 cm in length, with both sexes exhibiting brown upperparts, wings, and tail.
