The Muottas-Muragl funicular railway in Engadin, Switzerland leads from Punt Murgal near Samedan at 1740 m to Muottas Muragl at 2445 m near its summit (2453 m). The mountain overlooks the Engadin, between the towns of Samedan, St. Moritz and Pontresina. The funicular with two cars has a single track with a passing loop. The line of 2170 m in length has a difference of elevation of 705 m at a maximum inclination of 54%.

Two lines of the Rhaetian Railway have stations near the funicular's base station: Punt Muragl on the Samedan–Pontresina line and Punt Muragl Staz on the Bernina line (St. Moritz-Pontresina). Completed in 1907, and rebuilt in 1992, it was the longest single-section funicular in Switzerland, longer lines having separate sections. The original concession allowed operation in summer only, but this was changed in 1908 already.

Wangerooge Island Railway

The single track Wangerooge Island Railway (Wangerooger Inselbahn) is an unelectrified narrow gauge railway with a track gauge of 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in) located on the East Frisian island of Wangerooge off the northwestern coast of Germany. It is the most important means of transport on the car-free island and is the only narrow gauge railway operated today by the Deutsche Bahn.

In 1999, the DB AG procured two new diesels from the firm of Schöma (399 107 and 108) that have been used ever since to haul passenger trains.

ČSD Class ES 499.1 is a class of electric locomotives used primarily for passenger trains in Czech Republic and Slovakia. Now classified as Class 363, these locomotives passed to České dráhy (ČD), rail operator in the Czech Republic, and to ZSSK, rail operator in Slovakia. Class 363 is also used by ČD Cargo and ZSSK Cargo for hauling freight trains.

During 1990 further development to run at 140 km/h lead to the ČD Class 362, but an order for 30 locos was canceled due to financial problems. Some ČD Class 363 and ŽSR Class 363 locomotives are being rebuilt as 362s.

My photo shows ČD 362 175-2 leaving Prague Main Station in November 2023.

Electric mine locomotive EL 2

From 1952 to 1988, 1384 units of the powerful EL 2 electric mine locomotive, also known as the "hundred-ton locomotive", were built, making it the most frequently built electric locomotive series in Germany. About half of the locomotives were delivered to GDR companies; customers were also Bulgaria, China, Poland and the USSR.

In Germany, only three of the original locomotives are still in service in the Lusatian lignite mining area, where they are used in particular for de-icing the overhead lines in winter. Modernised locomotives of this type are in service with LEAG in the Lusatian lignite mining district, among others, and are designated EL2m.

The EL2 locomotives are equipped with pantographs for overhead lines, and side pantographs can also be fitted. These are needed for catenary tracks and for systems in which the wagons are loaded from above.
