Kythera island: Beautiful natural scenery, dramatic stories and legends.

Where the land beats to the rhythm of wildlife. Nature leads, and you simply observe, learn, and feel. It’s not just a trip — it’s a return to the essence of life. Human beings are made for walking and few holiday pursuits are more natural than a proper, old-fashioned hike. You stretch your legs a little, conversation is suddenly uncorked and the need to reach your goal supplies all the purpose you need. Suddenly, you notice your surroundings, which is what makes Pyrgos House walking holidays especially mouth-watering, since we explore some of the island’s most dramatic and fascinating landscapes.

Slow travel is about savouring the journey, the people, sights, smells and sounds along the way. It encourages deeper connections, friendship and lifelong memories. It is local, thoughtful and sensitive to its impact. It is an antidote to mindless mass tourism. A walking journey with Pyrgos House is a wonderful way to travel slowly. With an open mind, an open heart and a little energy in the legs, it can provide the ultimate slow exploration of a relatively unknown island, its food, history, landscapes and people. Pyrgos House tells a story of slowness and sensitivity, where your pace allows you to feel part of the island – not like an outsider skimming the surface.

Discover Tylliria area is on the north shore of Cyprus, where one can say that it resembles a peninsula in between the bay of Morphou to the east and the bay of Chrysochous to the west. Nestled on the coastal foothills of the Troodos mountains, in the northwestern corner of the island where the districts of Nicosia and Pafos meet, lies this region — also known as Tillyrka.

In this region, youʼll discover Cyprus in its purest and most authentic form — untouched, unfiltered and truly unforgettable.

From peaceful villages, where new-age ceramic artists work, stone-built chapels and quaint fishing harbours whisper stories of pilgrims, merchants and conquerors, to trail of hobbits, dragon caves, the ruins of medieval towers, traditional charcoal kilns and coastal paths that once connected remote communities on foot; Tylliria isnʼt just for the curious traveller — itʼs also a paradise for food lovers. From freshly caught fish, the regionʼs unique halitzi cheese, sun-dried figs of the local koutsino variety, juicy prickly pears, and rich carob honey. An array of traditional sights and flavours that reflect the deep bond between the land and its people.

The much shorter road leading to the district from polis or Pafos, is passing through Kokkina, whereas earlier travellers were forced on a long detour inland and needed to be escorted by the UN. No matter if today they eased access to the area, the specific restrictions and the logistical difficulties for residents of that region to reach central Nicosia or the south-west coast (Pafos), have left a lasting impact on the area’s development.

The north coast of Cyprus is quieter than its southern counterpart, but donʼt let that fool you into thinking there is nothing to do. There is plenty to explore and see, as you shall find out being (of course) based at

For travelers interested in food, history, nature, and endless overlapping and long-lasting cultural influences, Pafos region is becoming a Mediterranean destination on par with the best of them. Mythology says that the goddess Aphrodite rose from the waves near Petra tou Romiou (Aphroditeʼs Rock) but her connection to the area does not stop there. Tourists have traditionally come to Cyprus for its beaches, especially the wild coves of Pafos in the west, and Anassa - a Mediterranean resort on the north-west coast of Cyprus, framing its splendid history, its weighty elegance, its thrilling solidity, and yet there is so much more to dive into. Let us take you away from the poolside for a little and right into the hinterland of Pafos and the watery-wondrousness of the Akamas national park. And as you drive down the winding roads, probably having your eyes glued to the front, pull through one of the viewpoints and step out of the car to take in the surroundings and the history of this peninsula, a reminder of Cyprusʼs ability to adapt, endure and ever-changing. From the downtown of Polis to the hidden valleys of Pafos forest, new emerges from the old. A shapeshifter exploited by the whims of history, resurgent (with brand new Museums and upgrading archaeological sites) again. To finish it off with some of the best sunsets you will see in your whole life.

The inhabitants of Pafos have a special relationship with the sea. Most swim year-round. One of the most beloved beaches is the Municipal Baths, also called Kato Pafos beach, which runs along the whole strip from Geroskipou towards Pafos harbour. Ta Bania beach in Greek, has no sand and the water is very deep as there are many rocks underneath (there’s a ladder to get in) and with a view of the Medieval Castle, bathers enter the sea by diving from a dock.
