Tiny autumn treasures, hidden on the forest floor ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ„

12 of my favorite autumn captures, from tiny mushrooms on the forest floor to glowing leaves, acorns, moss, and all the warm little details that make this season feel so magical. Autumn macro photography always feels different to me - quieter, moodier, and full of small scenes that look like they belong in a fairytale. ๐Ÿ˜โ

This is the season when I start looking closer at the ground again. Mushrooms appear overnight, leaves change color day by day, berries and acorns add texture, and the forest becomes filled with orange, red, yellow, and th green slowly disappears. Even the smallest corner can become a beautiful photo subject if the light is right ๐Ÿ”โ

When photographing mushrooms or leaves, try getting very low and shooting from their level instead of from above โœจโ 
This makes the subject feel more immersive, brings in soft foreground blur, and helps turn simple forest floor details into dreamy autumn scenes.โ

This bumblebee looked completely lost in the pollen ๐ŸŒป๐Ÿโ

I love finding bumblebees roaming around sunflowers. They disappear between the golden petals and pollen-covered details, looking like they have found the best little feast of the day โ˜€๏ธ

This one was busy exploring the sunflower center, covered in tiny grains of pollen and surrounded by all that bright yellow glow. I love how macro photography reveals the details we would usually miss - the texture of the sunflower, the soft hairs of the bumblebee, and the delicate shine on its wings.โ

Sunflowers are already such joyful summer flowers, but add a bumblebee into the scene, and suddenly it becomes a tiny golden world full of life ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿฅนโ

This summer keeps surprising me with butterflies ๐Ÿฆ‹๐Ÿ’›โ

The zinnia flowers have been full of life - bees, butterflies, and tiny visitors moving between the colorful blooms. It has truly been one of the highlights of my summer photo walks ๐Ÿฅนโ

I cannot be thankful enough for all the butterfly encounters I have had this summer. It has been so long since I photographed butterflies this often. I think 2021 was my peak butterfly year before this one, and it feels so special to experience that kind of magic again ๐Ÿ’›โ 
โ 
This pretty Common brimstone butterfly landed on a vibrant red zinnia, and the sunlight illuminated its wings so beautifully, almost turning them translucent. I love how the bright yellow glow contrasts with the red petals and soft green background.โ 
โ 
Summer photo walks have felt so alive this year, and moments like this are exactly why I keep going out with my camera ๐Ÿ˜โ

A little collection of dahlia photos, starting with this deep red beauty.โ

Dahlias are one of my favorite autumn flowers, and now is such a perfect time to photograph them while they are in full bloom. Their colors, shapes, and layered petals make them so beautiful to explore through a macro lens (other lenses work too!) ๐Ÿ˜โ

I especially love when the light catches the petals just right, bringing out all those rich tones and tiny details. Even a single dahlia can create such a strong and dreamy scene when the background melts away softly.โ

I decided to try the opposite rectangle cutout trend, but wanted to add my own little macro photography essence to it.โ

Instead of keeping everything flat, I let some flowers and insects come out of the boundaries, adding a bit more depth and making the scenes feel more alive ๐Ÿโ 
โ 
From seasonal opposites to contrasting colors, I love how different photos can work together when the colors, textures, and moods balance each other. My photography has always been about color, softness, and tiny details, so this trend felt like such a fun way to combine them in a new way. โ„๏ธ๐Ÿฆ‹

Warm and cool tones, flowers and frost, insects and blooms, light and dark - there is so much beauty in contrast.โ

This bee gave me the rare thing macro photographers dream of - stillness ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ’›โ

I found this honeybee attached to a common tansy flower, taking a quiet little break. It barely moved at all, which gave me the perfect opportunity to compose the shot carefully and capture all the details I wanted.โ 
โ 
In macro photography, even the smallest movements can make a huge difference, so a calm subject like this is such a gift. The only real challenge was the wind, moving the flowers from time to time and making me wait for the calmer moments.โ 
โ 
Later, the bee got its strength back, crawled around the flower, did a little cleaning session, and eventually flew away.โ 
โ 
I was so happy to see that it was alright and had enough energy to continue its day ๐Ÿฅนโ

I almost went to sleep before finding this incredible moth!โ

A stunning orache moth I photographed on Midsummer morning, about an hour after sunrise ๐Ÿฆ‹

After walking through the meadows and photographing the incredibly detailed caterpillar, I was finally heading back to sleep when I noticed this moth resting on the swing. It looked almost mossy, with the most fascinating green and brown patterns, and I knew I had to photograph it before calling it a morning!
โ 
The light was still limited, but since the moth was resting on a stretched cloth wall, I was able to balance my camera against it and keep it steady enough for handheld focus stacking. I did not use flash or any additional lighting here, only natural morning light โ˜€๏ธ
โ 
๐Ÿฅž The first photo is a 67-photo focus stack, and the second is a 34-photo focus stack. After the 70-photo caterpillar stack from the same morning, this became another one of my biggest and most detailed handheld stacks so far.โ 
โ 
This was such a fascinating find, and definitely a different kind of subject than I usually photograph. I love when macro photography surprises me with something unexpected like this.โ
