Goodbye purple πŸ’œβ

These fresh asters, covered in tiny droplets, officially mark the end of my current dreamy purple and pink theme 🩷⁠

I love these colors so much and could probably continue this theme for a long time, but it feels like the right moment to bring some fresher tones into my feed 🌈⁠
⁠
With last week's weevil post and this aster photo, the pink and purple theme has officially come to an end, making room for new colors on my profile.⁠
⁠
You have already seen the first little glimpse of one of the colors coming next, but I am not going fully monotone this year.⁠

My subscriber community already knows what is coming, but the rest of you will have to wait and see what colors my feed is going to turn into next πŸ‘€β

Rhododendron rhapsody 🧑⁠

Rhododendrons are one of those late-blooming bushes that bring color and beauty after many of the Spring flowers are already gone, and I absolutely love them.⁠
⁠
But I also find them so difficult to photograph beautifully.⁠
⁠
Their flower structure is quite complex, which makes it hard to capture a photo that I am fully happy with. The blooms often overlap with other blooms in the background, making separation tricky, and the depth of the flowers makes it challenging to get enough details sharp in one image. 🫠⁠

πŸ’ͺ🏻 This year, I finally managed to capture a rhododendron photo I am really pleased with - behold!⁠

This is a 2-photo focus stack, combining the sharp details of the stamen tips and petals into one final image ✨

Weevil on a stroll through cranesbill flowers πŸ’œβ

These weevils are some of the tiniest and trickiest insects to photograph, but they are also so adorable with their little snouts πŸ₯°β

I found several of them roaming around these flowers in a shadowed corner of the garden. That softer light was perfect because harsh sunlight would have created too much contrast on this already dark little insect. I have noticed them around these flowers quite often - just like with irises, there seems to be something about hardy geraniumΒ flowers that they really enjoy πŸ‘€

The weevils were very active, which made it challenging to capture them sharply. 🫠 Then I noticed this tiny one stopping for just a moment, and that was my cue to capture as many photos as I could.

I managed to focus on different parts of the weevil in separate shots and combine them into a 4-photo focus stack, so the whole weevil would be sharp in the final image.⁠

Zoom in on the weevil - can you see a tiny pollen grain stuck to its head? That is how small it is! πŸ”β 
⁠

Insects are always the first thing I notice when I'm out with my camera. The tiny bees buzzing, chunky bumblebees flying between flowers, and butterflies gazing in the Sun πŸ₯Ή

This June, I made it my mission to photograph more peonies. They are one of my favorite summer flowers, with their beautiful, heavenly scented blooms, but I often find them tricky to photograph in a way that fits my style.

This year, I noticed that bumblebees absolutely loved these open peonies with their pollen-filled centers. So I returned to them a few times during my photo walks, hoping to capture these fluffy little hard-working visitors between the petals 🐝

And the results did not disappoint 😍⁠

I loved seeing them disappear into the bright yellow center, covered in pollen and moving from one bloom to the next. The contrast between the vibrant pink petals, golden pollen, and tiny bumblebees made this scene so fun to photograph 🌼

Peonies and bumblebees might be one of my favorite summer combinations now 🐝⁠

I love composing my photos in a way that isolates the flower I'm photographing, and in this scene, the foreground flowers instantly caught my attention. I got low and framed the main flowers through other out-of-focus blooms in the front, adding softness, depth, and a more dreamy feel to the composition 😍⁠

Going low, framing through nearby flowers, and paying attention to the background are a few photography tips I always give. Small changes like these can completely transform a simple flower scene ✨

Bumblebees amongst foxgloves 🐝🩷⁠

This year, I struggled to find foxgloves anywhere to photograph, even though they are one of my favorite flowers to capture around this time.⁠
⁠
Then, to my surprise, I found some near my home on my way to the botanical garden, growing in a public green area between apartment buildings. And I got even more excited when I noticed bumblebees buzzing around the blooms 😍⁠
⁠
I managed to capture this bumblebee perfectly frozen in the air, with its wings spread, tongue out, and ready for a feast. The backlit light was so beautiful too - the Sun was behind the flowers and the bee, lighting up the wings and those semi-transparent foxglove petals while adding so much dreaminess to the scene ✨⁠

Swipe to see more takes from this location. The other two photos are creative stacks I managed thanks to burst shooting, and I also experimented with the background colors, including one version with my signature teal backdrop 🩡⁠
