A butterfly among apple blossoms πŸ¦‹πŸŒΈβ

During a photo walk, while photographing apple blossoms and filming behind-the-scenes videos for the BTS camera reel I recently posted, the walk was already coming to an end, and it had started raining. Before leaving, I decided to take a few more photos in one of my apple blossom spots in the garden.

To my surprise, I spotted a butterfly flying from tree to tree, so of course I followed it. Eventually, it landed on this blossom. I carefully approached it and captured as many photos as I could before it flew away. And I got the shot! 🀘🏻

I combined two photos with focus on the eye and the upper part of the wing to get more of the butterfly sharp in a single image. Sometimes these unplanned little focus stacks work beautifully too, as long as I do not move too much between the shots.
I've shared multiple easy focus stacking techniques on my Patreon if you want to try it out!

This year, I have photographed butterflies in plum blossoms, lilacs, and apple blossoms, and it has been such a joy seeing these little beauties among the blooms. πŸ₯Ή I would call this a very successful Spring and blossom season, don't you agree? 🌸

And I cannot wait to see what Summer has to bring πŸ’›

Seconds apart 🐝

A honeybee approaching dreamy white apple blossoms - a moment that took me forever to capture just the way I wanted.

I spent countless hours photographing apple blossoms over multiple days while preparing my behind the scenes camera video, and even with all that time, I still did not manage to capture a perfectly focused photo of a bee in flight 🫠

Then came a surprise. During my visit to the lilac garden, I spotted the prettiest apple blossom tree, covered in blooms and buzzing with bees. Suddenly, I had another chance to try for those mid-flight bee photos... and this time, I succeeded! 🫢🏻

πŸ’‘ π—£π—΅π—Όπ˜π—Ό π˜π—Άπ—½:
I use burst shooting to capture moments like these, when bees move quickly between flowers. That is how I got these two photos, taken less than a second apart.

It is such a tiny difference in time, but each frame feels a little different, and I love that.

I share more insect photography tips on my Patreon, so if you want to learn from me and improve your techniques, have a look 🀍

Dreamy lilac garden treasures πŸ’œβ

Two weeks ago, I visited a lilac garden with the widest variety of lilac trees in the whole Baltics, and it did not disappoint 😍

I had the chance to photograph so many amazing and unique lilacs. Some had soft, round petals, some were spiky, some were beautifully twirly, and some even had a differently colored border around the petals. And the smell of the blossoms? Pure heaven 😌

I often find lilacs tricky to photograph, but this time I came home with so many keepers. These are just two of them, and I still have many more waiting to be finished πŸ’œβ

I also shared a big collection of photos from this day on Patreon, in case you want to see more of the beautiful lilac scenes I took during this visit 🫢🏻

Forget-me-not hearts - one of my most anticipated Spring moments πŸ’™β

Yes, these are real and naturally heart-shaped flowers, as surprising as it may seem!

I still remember the first time I spotted one. I could not believe how clearly it looked like a heart. After learning that this happens every year, I started anticipating the arrival of forget-me-nots with my camera ready.

Some years, I even find a handful of these little hearts out in the wild, quietly hidden among the tiny blue flowers. It feels like such a sweet sign created by nature, and I love it every single time πŸ₯Ήβ

Tiny blue flowers, delicate droplets, and a heart shape made by Spring itself - what could be more magical?
Have you photographed these tiny blooms, shaped like a heart? 🩡

My current favorite thing to photograph - blooming trees and their visitors πŸ₯ΉπŸŒΈβ

This was such an unexpected moment. I was photographing the blossoms of this apple tree when I noticed something hidden inside one of the flowers.

It was a wasp!

I have photographed plenty of bees in blossoms before, but never a wasp. And it turned out to be such a good poser. It stayed on the blossom for a little while, moving only slightly and giving me enough time to capture it from different angles before it flew off πŸ₯Ή

The soft white petals, bright yellow background, and this tiny striped visitor peeking through the flower made this one of the highlights of the day 🐝

Blooming trees are already beautiful on their own, but when little visitors appear between the flowers, the whole scene becomes even more special 😍
