When I started writing "F-STOP THE MADNESS: A No BS Guide To ACTUALLY Using Your Camera," It was just a few scrambled thoughts in my brain. I created an outline, then started writing. There wasn't any problems with writer's block. But' having spent 35 years in the construction field left me no clues about the steps to write a book.
The easy part was getting the scrambled thoughts on paper. I know I'm not the best writer, but I've been getting my photo points across in the wild pretty well, and for quite awhile. I took my tips and secret tricks and highlighted them in bullet points. It made real easy to quickly find important go-to information.
Fast forward - The book is finally done. All that's left is loading it on Kindle Publishing. I spent about twenty hours being rejected for magin bleed issues and various other formatting issues. I was working with InDesign for the first time. Not very successfully!!
I got up one morning at 3 a.m. to start the upload process again. The manuscript was accepted the first try. I couldn't believe it! Now, I just have to design the cover, front, back and spine. I sucked at that too. After two days of trial and errors I finally got the cover approved.
I started this project while I was living in the back seat of my Honda Element. I finished it on a kitchen counter I built with my own two hands. To say it's been a journey...
A trip to Alaska is once in a life-time for most clients I see. It's an expensive trip. Most of my clients are on high dollar cruises. Their time is valuable as they pack everything in they possibly can. I consider it a huge honor when they book me as a guide.
I've had over ten thousand enter the wild with me. Every one of them has got my absolute best. When I post a photo I try to share only my best work. I've gotten up as early as needed and stayed as late as needed. I love what I do. Every workshop has been a blast, every photo etched a memory. I work hard to get my shots, I work hard to keep improving as a teacher. You will ALWAYS get my very best.
After recieving a physical copy of my book, I was very disappointed. Every step of this process has been a learning nightmare. I'm sorry to announce I have unpublished "F-STOP THE MADNESS." If you own one of these you have one of about 35.
Tina and I are building a small house and we own a very small company... but we bring it!! WE don't pick people up in the typical white tour van. We pick our guests up in a Grand Wagoneer, heated seats and triple sunroofs. Our motto - "only cry once!" We eat home-made snacks made by Tina. Amazing!! And I teach my ass off! When I post a photo, its after doing whatever it took to capture it.. We are all about quality. We like promising the best and delivering the best.
"F-STOP THE MADNESS," uploaded fine as an eBook. I have the bulleted highlights and all included. When I uploaded the manuscript... It made the book basically one sentence after the other. No bullet points, no highlights, or tips formatted properly. I'm guessing I didn't check a box that was needed or something like that. I'm going to get this issue fixed, address the quality issue and republish it.
