Daniel Rakotoseheno, also known as Dany Be (1935-2021), was a prominent figure in Malagasy photojournalism. A correspondent photographer, his work quickly gained recognition and led to collaborations with GAMMA, SYGMA, and United Press International. He stated, "I am interested in photographing social, cultural, and political events that mark Madagascar's history." La liberté d'expression – c'est-à-dire le droit d'exprimer librement ses opinions – est l'une des libertés fondamentales qui constituent les piliers de la démocratie. Garantir et respecter ce droit favorise l'émergence d'une société ouverte et tolérante, attachée à l'État de droit. Daniel Rakotoseheno, alias Dany Be, auteur de cette photo n’a jamais cessé de proclamer cela — à travers sa photographie, bien sûr — haut et fort, en en faisant un principe vital et une force motrice de la société dans laquelle il vivait. À la lumière de ce principe, et étant donné que la photographie est protégée par le droit d’auteur, vous ne pouvez pas utiliser une œuvre photographique sans l’autorisation du ou des titulaires des droits afin de conclure un accord de cession ou de licence. Freedom of expression—that is, the right to freely express one’s opinions—is one of the fundamental freedoms that form the pillars of democracy. Guaranteeing and respecting this right fosters the emergence of an open and tolerant society committed to the rule of law. Daniel Rakotoseheno, known as Dany Be, the author of this photograph, never ceased to proclaim this—through his photography, of course—loud and clear, making it a vital principle and a driving force in the society in which he lived. In light of this principle, and given that the photograph is protected by copyright, you may not use a photographic work without the authorization of the rights holder(s) to enter into a transfer or licensing agreement.
