What is happening in Myanmar at the moment stuns us due to the gravity of the actions perpetrated by the army against democracy. Our heart, our mind and the little we can do is addressed to all the Burmese people and, in particular, to the wonderful people we have got to know. We hope that are doing well, to the extent that they can be at times like this. Since 2015, thanks to the election of Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar has embarked on a tiring path towards a democratic horizon, but the military grip in politics has never relaxed. The recent re-election of the Nobel Peace Prize has prompted the Burmese army to react, justifying its intervention due to alleged electoral fraud. A ghost who returns and tries to drag the country into the dark past from which he had painfully emerged.
Quello che sta succedendo in queste ore in Myanmar ci stordisce per la gravità delle azioni perpetrate dall’esercito contro la democrazia. Il nostro cuore, la nostra mente e il poco che possiamo fare è rivolto a tutto il popolo birmano e, in particolar modo, alle splendide persone che abbiamo avuto modo di conoscere. Speriamo stiano bene, nella misura in cui lo si possa essere in momenti come questo. Dal 2015, grazie alla elezione di Aung San Suu Kyi, il Myanmar ha intrapreso un percorso faticoso verso un orizzonte democratico, ma la presa militare nei gangli amministrativi e politici non si è mai allentata. La recente rielezione del premio nobel per la pace ha indotto l’esercito birmano a reagire, giustificando il proprio intervento per via di presunti brogli elettorali. Un fantasma che ritorna e cerca di trascinare il paese nel passato oscuro dal quale era faticosamente uscito.
