The beauty of Islay:

A few years ago, I visited Islay as part of a two-week trip around Scotland. Islay is one of the islands off Scotland's west coast and is part of the Inner Hebrides.

As one of Scotland's westernmost islands, exposed to the Atlantic Ocean, Islay experiences some rough weather, especially during the winter. Yet we were very lucky to enjoy some of the nicest weather the island had seen that year during our stay at the end of summer.

Islay is also home to nine Scotch whisky distilleries, which are renowned for producing distinctive peated whiskies, often characterized by smoky, maritime flavours with notes of sea salt, iodine, and seaweed. The peat used to dry the malted barley, combined with Islay's coastal climate and traditional production methods, gives many of the island's whiskies their unmistakable identity.
