Last night, I had the opportunity to capture some candid moments from this year's L-Imnarja.

L-Imnarja is the traditional Maltese celebration of the feast of St. Peter and St. Paul, marking the crop harvest on the Maltese Islands. Local farmers, livestock breeders, and artisanal food producers compete to display the finest outcomes of their yearly labor. It truly is a wonderful celebration of hard work, family values, and community collaboration.

Fun-fact: In the past, L-Imnarja was so deeply embedded in social fabric that it was legally recognized in marriage contracts. Grooms would formally bind themselves to take their new brides to specific major feasts during their first year of marriage—most notably L-Imnarja—where the bride would traditionally wear her formal wedding dress to the festivities.

Photos 1-5: Elaborate costumes from the different carnival companies bringing the soul of Carnival to life while interacting with the public in Valletta.

Photos 6-10: Scenes from this year's Qarċilla. The Qarċilla (or the "Mock Wedding") is a street play that parodies a traditional marriage contract. A "notary" leads the ceremony, reading out a hilarious, rhyming deed that promises the bride and groom absurd dowries—from broken furniture to leftover food!

Wandering through Valletta on Sunday afternoon. The weather didn't want to cooperate, but the Carnival spirit definitely did. Here are a few candid moments of the enthusiasts who braved the grey skies to keep the tradition alive.
