Malawians urged to make wise decisions as maize seed and fertilizer prices soar
The prices of maize seed and fertilizer have been released, raising concerns among farmers and citizens as the 2025/2026 farming season approaches.
According to the latest update, SeedCo has pegged the price for a 10kg pack of Kanyani maize seed at MWK 123,000.
Similarly, a 10kg pack of Mkango maize seed is also selling at MWK 123,000.
Meanwhile, the M'bizi variety is slightly cheaper, with a 10kg pack priced at MWK 111,000.
On the other hand, fertilizer prices have also seen a significant increase under the Ilimotele program.
A 50kg bag of NPK fertilizer is now selling at MWK 155,000.
Likewise, a 50kg bag of Urea fertilizer is priced at MWK 150,000.
These soaring input costs come at a critical time, with Malawians preparing to vote on September 16.
As such, the public is being reminded to vote wisely, bearing in mind the economic hardships and the rising cost of agricultural inputs.
The call for wise voting suggests that many citizens are hoping for leadership that will prioritize food security and reduce the cost of farming in Malawi.
