Durango’s mezcal feels especially unique to me. Most people are familiar with mezcal from Oaxaca, or with cocktails made with espadín. This reportage explores another side of mezcal: the landscapes, the process, and the long journey it takes to bring a single bottle of this agave spirit to life.

One of my goals for 2026 is to dive much deeper into the world of agave spirits. January’s goal is already accomplished: I paid for my first mixology workshop.

It’s a very deep and complex universe, and it has always interested me a lot. It’s so much fun! I can’t wait to recreate everything I learned.
