LAS VEGAS, Nevada - June 8, 2026 - I just love this guy. David Montesino was the one who hired me onto the staff of the Honolulu Advertiser newspaper where I worked for 13 years. He is, in my opinion, one of the most talented editors in the business and his two Pulitzer Prizes back him up. After dinner, his lovely wife Meg caught Dave's signature grin.

PEARL HARBOR - Hawaii - 1998 - This is one of the tripple turret 16-inch guns of the USS Missouri berthed at Pearl Harbor. It could fire an armor piercing shell 24 miles. Really amazing ship. The bird landing was a miracle

JAKARTA, Indonesia - 2006 - Though I rarely use my Leica 135mm Elmar telephoto lens, this picture needed some reach, so I attached it to my Leica M7 rangefinder camera and asked my taxi driver to stop in the middle of stalled traffic to get this wild image. It was taken with Kodak Tri-X 400 film.

LOS ANGELES, California - 1995 - I had a meeting with a photo gallery one afternoon and I arrived too early, so I headed to a nearby deserted Chinese restaurant to kill time. Bored, I walked over to the window with Leica M7 and attached 28mm Summicron lens. I just love Kodak Tri-X 400 film.

BANGKOK, Thailand - August 24, 1993 - Corinna and I just watched the very fine movie 'Michael' and it reminded me of the four Michael Jackson concerts I photographed on assignment in Miami and Thailand. This image during his Dangerous-tour in Bangkok clearly shows stitching on his nose from a recent surgery. The media was restricted to a 200mm focal length lens to hide the detail. I must have gotten confused with my 300mm.

SOUTH CHINA SEA - May 7, 2026 - One of the things I loved about my AP Bangkok posting was the extreme cloud formations over Southeast Asia. I would often have my face glued to the window in amazement during many photo assignments in the region and my return flight to Los Angeles did not disappoint during this bumpy storm pattern.

BANGKOK, Thailand, May 5, 2026 - After a 23-hour flight, I was invited to dinner at a dimly lit Italian restaurant in Bangkok by an exceptional man who is a legend in Thailand for his work with children in the Klong Toey slum. Many of you veteran photojournalists who frequent the back streets near his Mercy Centre will know him as Fr. Joe Maier, whom I have been friends with and photographed for almost 40 years. When I was based in Bangkok for Associated Press, Fr. Joe would occasionally come over to my apartment and listen to vinyl on my Audio Research tube amplifier with attached Swiss Goldmund turntable. He loved the sound, often listenting into the wee hours. It was his sanctuary that I gladly provided. These were magic moments together. I have not seen him in a few years since moving to Mexico. With Fr. Joe being 86 and me almost 70, we aren't getting any younger ... Sometimes you just have to go see a friend.

SOUTH CHINA SEA - May 1, 2026 - it’s not my usual greasy Denny’s breakfast but probably healthier. I am on a quick side trip to Bangkok to see a dear friend. I broke my all time flight record just shy of 16 hours non stop from Los Angeles to Hong Kong. .

LAS VEGAS, Nevada - April 27, 2026 - Sin City is my US home base. It is a 3-hour flight from Mexico City, where I reside. I am transiting here on my way to Bangkok for a few days. I was shocked to learn that my local casino coffee shop has been replaced by a Denny's, which is so lit up that I felt like a child arriving at his first circus. Many employees whom I have known for 22 years have lost their jobs. Sadly, a sign of the times. Fortunately, I am a big fan of (well-run) Denny's. The opening was lukewarm; however, I was sitting near two very friendly corporate executives who flew in from South Carolina. How often does one get the chance to complain about the coffee to the top dogs? They were so happy with my suggestions that they gave me two free Denny's thermoses.

MEXICO CITY — April 12, 2026 — My dog, Ringo, returned from doggie camp early this morning. After the initial excitement, I had a cup of Earl Grey while we both chilled on the back porch. The rainy season seems to have started early, and as darkness fell, our neighbors' music mixed with the rolling thunder. It was just one of those perfect moments.
