Nature photographer specializing in wildlife photography I grew up in the woods of New England, where I fostered a love of all kinds of wildlife.

Even before moving out West, I loved the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Since my first pivotal encounter with wildlife photography, I was hooked. In the years following, I have been fortunate enough to explore new areas of the world and photograph a variety of experiences. I have also broadened my horizons to include other aspects of nature photography, especially storm clouds and the stars.

It's been a busy summer, but I am almost caught up with my edits and I look forward to sharing my work! This is one of my favorite shots from June, a bull moose that I spent several hours watching and photographing. When he first appeared, he was on the other end of the lake, but he gradually worked his way closer as he foraged for aquatic plants. At one point, a woman next to me asked whether he was "drinking water or eating fish". At the time I found it comical, as moose are herbivores, but it also made me appreciate all of the opportunities and moments that I've had in the woods, with moose and other species.

Bottlenose dolphins are perhaps the most well-known and charismatic species of dolphin, captivating us with their playful nature and acrobatic displays. Known for their intelligence and remarkable communication abilities, bottlenose dolphins are highly social creatures, forming intricate social bonds and exhibiting cooperative behaviors. These intelligent mammals inhabit coastal waters and are often seen leaping and riding waves, bringing joy to anyone fortunate enough to witness their playful antics.

Let's appreciate and protect these incredible creatures, ensuring their habitats remain healthy and thriving for generations to come. Together, we can make a positive impact through sustainable choices, responsible fishing practices, and reducing pollution.

Happy World Turtle Day!

This is a green sea turtle from the Sian Ka'an Biosphere on the Yucatan Peninsula. These turtles have a streamlined body and can grow to impressive sizes, with adults reaching lengths of 3 to 4 feet (about 1 to 1.2 meters) and weighing up to 300 to 500 pounds (about 136 to 227 kilograms).

Green sea turtles are primarily herbivorous, and their diet consists mainly of seagrasses and algae. They use their powerful jaws and serrated beaks to tear and chew their food. As herbivores, they graze on seagrass beds, controlling the growth of vegetation and promoting nutrient recycling. Their nesting activities also contribute to the formation of dune ecosystems, providing habitat for various species and helping stabilize coastal areas.

Green sea turtles face numerous threats, including habitat destruction, pollution, entanglement in fishing gear, and poaching for their meat, eggs, and shells. Conservation efforts are crucial to protect these endangered species and their habitats. Fortunately, through initiatives like protected areas, nesting beach monitoring, and public awareness campaigns, progress is being made to safeguard the future of green sea turtles and ensure their vital role in maintaining healthy marine ecosystems.

The Theodore Roosevelt National Park is home to a population of wild horses that roam freely within the park's boundaries. Mustangs are typically defined as feral horses that are descended from domestic horses brought to North America by Spanish explorers in the 16th century. The wild horses in Theodore Roosevelt National Park are descended from domestic horses that were brought to the area by settlers in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Found this juvenile barred owl unexpectedly while on a walk a few summers ago with .5 . He was just as curious about us as we were of him and kept scooting closer on his branch to get a better look at us until his mama brought him another tasty mouse to munch.

Eared Grebes are small, freshwater diving birds that are found in North and South America. They are known for their distinctive black and white ear patches, which give them their name. During breeding season, they display a striking rust-colored neck and head. Eared Grebes are excellent swimmers and divers, using their wings to propel themselves underwater in search of small fish and aquatic invertebrates.

Brown pelicans are excellent divers, plunging into the water from heights of up to 60 feet (18 meters) to catch their prey. They are also known for their ability to glide for long distances without flapping their wings, and for their unique social behaviors, such as communal feeding and courtship displays.

Whale sharks are the largest fish in the world and juveniles can measure 15 to 25 feet in length, while adults have been recorded up to 39 feet in length. Despite their colossal size, whale sharks feed on small fish, plankton, and krill. They do this via a behavior known as filter feeding, where the whale shark will swim with its mouth open and use its gills to filter out the water and keep its prey for consumption.

Despite the harsh conditions, bull elk are well-adapted to surviving in the winter months. Their thick fur and fat reserves help to keep them warm and provide energy for the long, cold days. As the snow covers the ground, elk will often feed on shrubs, bushes, and grasses that are still available. They will use their powerful sense of smell to detect food underneath the snow, and their long legs allow them to move around in the deep snow with relative ease.

Great gray owls are the largest owl species in North America; they stand about 2 feet tall and can have wingspans reaching 5 feet. The great gray owl also has the biggest facial disc of any owl, which enables it to locate prey by amplifying sounds. Great gray owls can find and capture voles hidden beneath 2 feet of snow.

If you've ever heard a loon call from afar, it can sound quite eerie. I grew up with loons and, according to the family log, my brother and I were convinced they were howling wolves. However, my favorite loon memory came about during an early morning paddle; unbeknownst to me, a loon surfaced right behind me before letting out a loud wail, startling the s**t out of me. I didn't capsize, but that's only because canoes are hard to tip!
