Even though I’m more of a “sit and stare at tree” kinda girl, I do find little moments of loving being in KL city too. In a way, it’s become a photographers’ playground and I have also formed many memories in many little corners of the city.

This shoot though was a bit more special because Yi Kuan grew up in the corners of Petaling Street, and it was so fun seeing my playground through the eyes of her younger self! Even more special because it was a shared experience with Gene Yan, who grew up in Pahang. I always find it interesting (and beautiful), how two people from different lives end up finding home in each other.

Quoting from a show I’ve been obsessed with recently, “Yes, life can suck. It can be unbearable and brutal and ugly and heartbreaking. But it’s also beautiful... and hilarious.” - The Pitt. These two are exactly like that. They’re like best friends, a rival pair in school, an old couple who bickers but helps wash each other’s bottle after a long day out. It’s the simple, little things that weigh the most, and fuel us in times of chaos.

When I was choosing a song for them, it has to be Yellow Submarine 😂 It just encapsulates their dynamic so well- childlike, innocent and free.

Stars aligning, universe manifesting, invisible strings. We have so many words to describe fate these days, but fate is exactly what I’d use to describe Vivian and Devindra’s journeys to meeting each other and finally committing to doing life together. Coming from different parts of the world, what are the odds both of you would end up in the same place, at the same time. With similar values of family, spirituality and a mutual love for nature. Perhaps it was cosmic intervention, perhaps it was luck, perhaps it was just meant to be. Either ways, I’m so happy you two met, because then I got to experience your love too.

Family and friends from all over the globe, coming together to celebrate you two. Honestly, it made my heart full to see you bringing everyone together, and your love for your family was everything. I saw so much beauty and softness in the form of gestures, a glance, conversation and dance. Thank you for inviting me in, what a privilege and an honour!

For some reason, these photos evoke a feeling of calm in me. A love that is soft and kind and gentle. I’m a sucker for soft romance.

I’ve been in a slower period in life, touching grass (literally), spending time with my cats. It’s been nice. Even though silence can sometimes feel too quiet, I’m trying to move slower, make my bed, watch the birds - finding softness in my own everyday life. This series of H & I made me feel this calmness too, this connection to life and nature, so it felt apt to post this now. I hope you have all been kind and gentle to yourselves out there :)

You know that group of girls who you met when you were younger, has seen different versions of you but still love you?  The friendships that have gone from hanging out almost everyday to long distance calls, but still knowing that in some part of the world, they hold a piece of your heart. How lucky to be a girl in this lifetime and have these friendships.

Sharanya is one of these friends to me (this feels kinda weird cause we don’t talk to each other like that ew hahah!). Sharanya is someone who is smart, but never makes you feel any lesser than around her. Kind, but practices her boundaries. Unapologetically takes up space as a powerful woman, but is also “just a girl”. I knew that whoever she ended up with would have to be a special person.

Karthik, you’re pretty cool. Karthik shares that intelligence, kindness and empathy. He loves actively and listens deeply. But in spending time with them as a couple, I also saw how Sharanya could just be a girl with Karthik. She could be silly and have fun, and so would he. Getting to see this side of my long time friend was so precious to me, and getting to meet the person who makes her feel safe enough to be herself was even more special. Thank you for letting me do this, friend. Miss you ❤️

Somebody once asked me “Why don’t you put on your website that you also do individual photography?”. You’ll know who you are 😉 And this made me think about individual portraits, how powerful it can be for a person to see themselves through a different lens, or also see themselves for the first time. How capturing a person at their most raw is a different but equally powerful form of capturing love.

This series highlights her journey with scoliosis. Something common, yet so rarely talked about in public. Capturing and editing this set, I’ve felt so moved. Moved by celebration of self, of a journey - the hopeful end of pain and the beginning of new possibilities and freedom. Being able to capture who she was and who she will be. This also got me reflecting on my own journey, and who I will be in 2, 5, 10 years down the road. I’m excited to meet these versions of self and also cherishing my past selves that brought me here. So to the person who asked me that question, thank you. And yes, I do individual portraits and would love to meet all these versions of you ♥️

Trust is something I don’t take lightly in this work. When you place your trust in me to capture a milestone, be it a wedding or a moment in your life, I see and value you.

Love it when a wedding feels less like an event but a gathering of people who play a part in shaping you.

This day with ML AND K was all about the foundation of their marriage. The day was low-key, deeply meaningful, full of love. Which from my perspective, quite reflects the couple: low-key, deeply meaningful and full of love.

There’s no one size fit all, it comes down to what speaks to you and matter to you. Don’t worry about having “nothing to capture”, enjoy the connection, presence and the love you hold for your partner + your people. Your photos will reflect this joy and presence, and tell your story a lot better ♥️

Some moments, I catch myself observing how insignificant and minuscule we are in this world and how it can feel like nothing really matters. At the same time, I think about how each day, we make choices, small and big, that DO matter.

Choices like: Do we make the first move? Do we value something over others? Do we make a vow to spend the rest of this lifetime with a person? Choices that we then make meaning of, and that shape how our lives matter.

Perhaps in a world where sometimes it can feel like we are small, we can come back to these decisions we made to remind us that this is what matters. Life witnessed by a partner, a family, a community.

A meaningful moment that mattered to me was witnessing moments like these, where TC and S made a choice that brought meaning not just to their own lives, but also those who love them. Maybe this is also a reminder to myself to take note of what matters, and to be fully present in the moment ✨

What makes a photo memorable? Some may say good lighting, strong composition or compelling subject. To me, it’s similar to asking “What makes a moment memorable?”.

Why should a picture be anything other than capturing the deep Realness of Moments lived. It’s the sincere joy of feeling like the best version of yourself. The chaos and the mess. The elatedness of being in a room with people who see and accept you for you. The goofiness and the tenderness. The steadfast words of commitment and the nervousness and excitement for what’s next.

So going back to what makes a good picture? In my opinion, it’s being able to live the emotions all over again. It’s nostalgic, it’s warm and fuzzy, it makes you believe that these were the moments lived and sometimes it makes you squirm. (it’s also aesthetically pleasing, read not overexposed, i have a thing for underexposed aesthetic 👀)

S & J, I hope that when you look back on your wedding day pictures, it’s more than just snapshots of the day, rather moments which remind you how deeply loved you are, how fun you are to be around, how genuine you are to your people. I feel so privileged to be a tiny part of your journey. May you never stop laughing at the silliest things ♥️

Life has looked a little different lately, in ways that have stretched me and grounded me- it’s become a daily act of holding joy and pain in balance, and exploring new depths of gratitude and love. And in doing so, the value of photographs look a little different for me this season. It’s beyond capturing stories, it’s also remembering people, feelings and connections.

Jon and Sam, thank you for your trust. I hope these images always remind you of the beautiful contrast you are, the community you’re nurturing and the thrill of the ride you’ve just begun. May you always choose each other ♥️

I often ask my clients - what do you want to feel when looking at these photos 20 years from now? And what I often get in response is a moment of pondering, glimpses of the future and all the possibilities it holds.

But it always comes down to is:
“I want us to feel the good and fun time we have today, simply being ourselves.” It’s the emotion they hope to still feel 20 years down the road.

And so that’s what we did. For this ‘date’, we came armed with pizza, chips, mosquito repellent, a film camera but guess what? Even with all that, we didn’t do what we had planned, we simply had fun. Trusted the process and made another core memory.

J & C, thank you for allowing me to capture these for you. Can’t wait to celebrate with you soon!
