At first glance, the mamiya Magazine 35 looks like any ordinary leaf shutter rangefinder from 1950s. But it stands out as only one of the few 35mm cameras with removable film backs.

The Mamiya Magazine 35 is a 35mm rangefinder camera introduced by Mamiya in 1957. It is distinctive for its interchangeable film magazines, allowing photographers to switch film types easily. The camera features a coupled rangefinder and a fixed lens, typically a 5cm Sekor f/2.8 lens, with an optional f/2 lens. The shutter is a Seikosha-MXL with speeds from 1 second to 1/500th of a second.The film back, or magazine, contains the winding and rewinding mechanisms and a dark slide to protect the film when changing backs. The baseplate includes the film counter and a red wheel to unlock the magazine.

Despite its innovative interchangeable magazine system, the Mamiya Magazine 35 was not a commercial success. It is now considered rare and is appreciated for its unique design and robustness. It is valued by collectors for its unusual feature set and build quality, though it remains a lesser-known Mamiya model today.
