The Working Dead, a musical written by Terrence Toh, with music and lyrics by Lydia Tong and Kelvin Loh, is a story about corporate zombies both figuratively and literally! Directed by Nicole-Ann Thomas, the production design of Christopher Ling comes to life (pun very much intended) with the magical lights of Wei Hock N and crisp sounds by Douglas Ch’ng Akai.

No musical would be complete without a band, led by conductor and saxophonist Shensation, with Samuel James Adam on bass, Stevie Tobi on drums, Albert Loo on guitar and Lee Han on piano.

The Working Dead is now showing at Pentas 2 KLPAC, with 8 shows left and tickets selling fast!

Malam Per(t)empu(r)an Sakti, organized by Malaysia Muda, Gerakbudaya and Imagined Malaysia, was an event of sharing the experiences of a world that continues to eradicate the voices of women and other marginalized and oppressed groups. The night was shared by a number of women activists, namely Juliet Chin, who was once imprisoned under the ISA act and and had to seek asylum after having her Malaysian citizenship taken from her, Katrina Maliamauv, an activist in her own right as well as daughter of Irene Fernandez, Nur Suhaidah A. Razak, an activist from GERAK Malaysia who works with the urban poor, and Anis Baharin from DearHer movement.

The night also saw performances in the shape of poetry by Nana, a monologue by Marina Tan, and music by Takahara Suiko of The Venopian Solitude, Wani and Maryam Najwa.

The event was held in conjunction with International Women’s Week at Gerakbudaya.

Every event begins with the hope it will live long and prosper beyond the organiser. Still, the greatest challenge is to sustain its success over time and fluctuating audience interests. In Backstage Pass KL : Built To Last, Peatix shines the spotlight on long-standing organisers to learn how they’ve innovated their platforms to last.

Featured speakers were Lim Shang Yi, Google Developer Group Kuala Lumpur / full stack developer, Prakash Daniel, One Mic Stand / stand-up comedian, Sumitra Selvaraj, Sarees and Stories / TV showrunner, and Arin Sharnaz Rashdi, Sifters Asia founder.

The Jack It! Series vol. 25 Mishaps & Mistletoe was their Christmas edition and their last show of 2018. The event featured Singapore’s Stephanie Dogfoot, a “right-on wordsmith and master of comic poignancy”, she has won national poetry slams in Singapore (2010) and UK (2012) and has represented both countries at international poetry slams. She has been a featured performer at the Glastonbury Festival, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Singapore Writers’ Festival, the Ubud Writers and Readers Festival, and more. Currently, she curates and hsots a monthly poetry night in Singapore called Spoke & Bird.

The event also featured Tingtongketz, initially a Trans persons band, but has evolved to include other Q***r members. Their music is their expression of where they come from: Malaysia, and they utilized the simplest instruments of a basic 3-piece band: guitar/vocals, bass and drums.

Audio levels were a bit all over the place that night, so I apologize that the audio quality of the videos are not as crispy as they usually are.
