‘Kings and Martyrs’ (June 2022)

This series of composite images were just a bit of pure inspiration on the day; our model Chloe was taking a break and so I snapped some random shots of her and I loved the combination of herself and the lighting that reminded me of some Renaissance style paintings.

So I asked her to pose in a manner reminiscent to figures depicted in those artworks and later overlayed it with some old renaissance prints with similar lighting style and direction
Love the outcome and while it may not be something that I plan to do a lot in upcoming shoots (cos compositing images literally takes to do hours ok), I’m really stoked to have taken the opportunity to challenge myself and experiment with this medium.

It’s kinda amazing how a simple difusser can cajnge the wualitybof light so drastically; we shot this in the middle of the afternoon in a back alley in Bangsar Telawi. Lol everyone was baking in the sun and the light was super harsh. But somehow we made it work 🙌
I’m still trying to find that balance between finding client work to pay the bills vs the artistic editorial work that i love to do; with the lack of opportunities to explore more paid editorial jobs in KL these days, once in a while it’s nice to look back at some previous work to remind myself to keep dreaming big ❤️

Thank you Alena for bringing us all together for this amazing project ❤️ we shot these images just days before Malaysia went into nationwide covid lockdown. Will always cherish the memories we have while making this album ❤️
Posted • RA’ONG (Sunhat) ~ I’ve told the story before, how in the past our ancestors said that the sky is like the big sunhat dome, and all of creation lay beneath it. This inspired Sky Songs the album, and the tracks Gitu’an and Sunhat Song ☁️ In the background of these posters is a sunhat my aunty Sina’ Rang and her sister made decades ago, and it was bought by the British Museum.

Taking a moment to relive a recent trip back to my hometown.
Photo taken at my favourite hideaway at Tunku Abdul Rahman (TAR) islands.
Eventhough the scenery was beautiful, there was also a lot of trash and debris behind me - drifting to shore from the nearby water settlement 😔💔
Let's keep our natural environment beautiful. Don't litter indiscriminately and let's clean up whatever outdoor areas to keep it pristine for perpetuity.
