Ferruginous Partridge (Caloperdix oculeus)
Day : 12/05/2024
Location : Pahang, Malaysia
Finally, after 7 failed attempts, more than 60 hours of waiting over a period of 2 years.
I have been trying to get a glimpse of this elusive beauty since last year, an experience which I will never forget. Early morning wake ups, more than 2 hours drive time to and fro, walking uphill with heavy gear from parking to port and last but not least the Rm.14 entrance fee every time when you go and yet end up going back home empty handed with disappointment..
Finally, today was The day (coincidentally the Mothers’ Day). We were trying since morning and bird didn’t show up in its usual timings before 10am. Based on past few weeks sightings either you get it by 10am or better pack, go home and relax. So we decided to extend the stay until 10.30am.. by 10.15am bird no show, and I was half sleeping as I have already made my mind to come in another 2 weeks time.
10.20am, we saw the bird peeking out its head from a side. A moment of silence broken with the burst of shutters from all the photographers when the Partridge stepped on to the podium and gave us the long waited show. Bird gave us a good show almost an hour.
This is the Male Ferruginous Partridge, tirelessly looking for the long lost female partner.
PS: I always take a pack of Nasi Lemak, which comforted me each time of disappointment when I had to leave this place empty handed. 😜
