(3/3) Inside of main temple hall (right), Cheng Hoon Teng Temple (青雲亭), the oldest functioning temple in Malaysia.

The temple was founded in the 1600s by the Chinese Kapitan Tay Kie Ki alias Tay Hong Yong. Besides serving the community's religious needs, the temple also functioned as the official administrative centre and a court of justice.

This year 2021’s Chinese New Year period, Cheng Hoon Teng Temple will remain closed due to the MCO; otherwise, in many other years, the temple was open through the night and flooded with visitors.

1/3 - The concentric arrangement features Kwan Yin (Goddess of Mercy) in the middle.

2/3 - The left altar is dedicated to the Goddess Ma Choe Po (Guardian of Fishermen and Seamen).

3/3 - On the right are the deities : Datuk Poh Seng Tye Tay (Guardian Deity of Well Being) and Datuk Hiap Tian Tye Tay (God Kwan Ti - God of Justice and his assistants), and also Thai Sway Yah (God of Worldly Human Welfare).

Lorong Jambatan is a short and narrow alley to Kampung Jawa Bridge, the second bridge built to connect the two sides of Melaka River after Tan Kim Seng Bridge.

This alley with two rows of shops, was once an important and busy street as it led to the bridge that linked Kampung Pantai to the newly developed Kampung Jawa in late 19th and early 20th century. It has had its glory days in mid 20th century until the late 20th century, many residents moved out and businesses closed down, the alley became a quiet and spooky place.

Recent years, especially within these two years, the alley become busy once again. Along the bloom of tourism in Melaka and the strategic location of Lorong Jambatan, many cafes, pubs, restaurants and guesthouses have gathered in this alley and its surrounding.

🌉 Lorong Jambatan, Kampung Jawa, 75200 Melaka.
