Gong Xi Fa Cai to all my friends and photographers. Here's a panoramic view of the beautiful and breathtaking image of Melbourne CBD... With the Yarra River seemingly splitting the city into two.

Shot this during sunset about a week just below CNY 2023 started.

It's not all aerial and landscape photography here, sometimes I do shoot some portraits too... albeit it's more like an experimental or tutorial style.

Here's some of my recent portrait session with Whitney.

When shooting environmental portrait, it's always a good practice to scout around and look for interesting background. Try taking a test shot of the background without a model inside and see how you can fit the model in the frame to make him/her stands out.

In this example, I want viewers to look straight on the left side of the frame where I am placing my model and slowly connecting viewers to the "bokeh" background on the right using the tree trunks as a leading line.

Location for portrait shoot also plays an important role in getting a good shot.

If you ever find a good symmetrical leading line (like the one in the photo), all you need to do is to place your subject in the middle of the frame, shoot her with wide aperture (F2.8 or wider for mirrorless camera or "Portrait Mode" for cellphone camera) and she would totally stand out!

While flying the drone, my screen can be quite cluttered with all the information (flight telemetries & camera settings) to the point that I feel it's taking too much of my screen real estate. One easy way to hide them all is by doing the "one-finger swipe" down anywhere in the middle of the screen. This will hide all the info and solely focus on the video feedback.

I will usually do this when I'm about to position my drone to take some shots. This way, I can concentrate and compose my angles much better without all the distractions on the screen.

After I have completed my shots, I would just do the "one-finger swipe" down again to reveal all the information.

Best Practice When Turning On/Off Your Drone.

When powering on your drone, turn on the remote control first, then followed by your aircraft. This is to avoid the aircraft from accidentally triggering RTH mode. Although this never happen to me before, still I think a safe practice is a good practice.

The opposite applies when you're done flying and about to keep your drone. Turn off your aircraft first then followed by the remote control.

A new start for a new year! Here I have today a quick tip for you fresh drone pilots out there.

"Take off" and "landing" are the two most crucial part of the whole drone flying process.

Tip - Always have the back side of the drone facing you when you are taking off or landing your drone. This way, your drone movement (roll and pitch) will be aligned with your remote control movement.
