Marv Seven . Editor's Room

Marv Seven . Editor's Room I tell stories with a camera and sell them with words. So tell me, What’s Your Story? And in return, life—and travel—leaves marks on you.

Specializing in humanity, culture, and adventure, because ‘bleisure’ sounds fancier than working on vacation. Hi, I'm Marv, an adventurer, storyteller, and photographer with a passion for exploring the world and sharing its wonders with others. My journey began in 1996, and since then, I’ve worn many hats—from a consultant and counsellor to a content creator and photographer. Each role has equippe

d me with unique skills and perspectives, allowing me to connect deeply with people and cultures. WHAT I OFFER
Authentic Storytelling
I believe in capturing and sharing experiences without distortion, maintaining integrity and authenticity in all my work. Relationship Building
I connect with individuals and communities, respecting confidentiality and cultural sensitivities. Cultural Awareness
I understand the nuanced needs and expectations of diverse communities, ensuring respectful and meaningful interactions. Integrity and Discretion
My work is guided by honesty and ethical principles, never fabricating responses or misrepresenting intentions. Clear Communication
I value transparent, concise, and effective communication, ensuring clarity in all exchanges. MY PHOTOGRAPHY PHILOSOPHY
With the rise of digital technology, photography has become more accessible, but true skill lies beyond owning an expensive camera. A skilled photographer adapts to any situation, sees the big picture, reads the room, and captures frames that tell compelling stories. My goal is to create narratives that resonate and leave lasting impressions. "As you move through this life and this world you change things slightly, you leave marks behind, however small. Most of the time, those marks—on your body or on your heart—are beautiful." — Anthony Bourdain

MY WORK
I specialize in lifestyle, travel, and event photography, capturing the essence of each moment. I also create, digest, and review content for various social media accounts on Instagram, Facebook, and other platforms. COLLABORATION
I am always open to collaborating on interesting projects or positions that involve storytelling and capturing memories. If you’re looking for a passionate adventurer and skilled storyteller, let’s connect and explore how we can create something remarkable together. Contact me to discuss potential collaborations or projects.

I'm still processing what I learned, not from the stage, but from what happened after the sessions ended.

Here's my honest take: Malaysia's startup scene has caught up on tools, but we're still building trust.

Let me explain what I mean.
The tech is already here. Nielsen showed us their latest analytics platform. AI and MarTech experts talked about personalization engines and unified data systems. We have access to the same tools that drive growth globally.

But here's the thing, having the tools and knowing how to actually use them are two different things. We've built the scaffolding, but we haven't developed the muscle memory to climb it yet.

The best part of the conference wasn't planned. There was this panel on community building that completely reframed how I think about growth. It's not about scalable systems or fancy funnels, it is about sustainable relationships.

After the session, I ended up spending hours in the networking hall with Louise Chu from Claire Organics and a group of UCSI students (some from Malaysia, others from Java). We went through hot tea and croissants while talking about the realities of entrepreneurship.

I even walked them through a case study: imagine you have RM 1 million in capital. Sounds like a lot, right? But after office rent, salaries for a small team, and development costs, you'd burn through it in months. And then you're left with an MVP but no sales yet.

That's the reality check most business courses don't teach. The silence that followed that revelation was telling.

That conversation was the whole point of the summit, distilled. Not another keynote or framework, just honest talk about what actually works and what fails spectacularly.

ASEAN founders love saying "we're building ecosystems." But real ecosystems don't form because of apps or CRMs. They form because someone's willing to sit down and share the hard truths about failure, uncertainty, and what it actually takes to survive those first brutal years.

We've had a decade of inspiration. What we need now is ex*****on. Operational playbooks. Real frameworks. People who can bridge the gap between data dashboards and ground realities.

The next phase of Malaysia's entrepreneurial growth won't come from another accelerator or another app. It'll come from networks of practitioners who share wisdom and experience long before they share capital or cap tables.

Re:Source 2025 reminded me that we don't lack data, funding, or ambition in ASEAN. We lack the connective tissue, the mentorship, the peer support, the honest conversations that help startups not just launch, but actually last.

And that tissue? It's built one conversation and a cup of tea at a time. One honest answer to a tough question vis-à-vis.

That's what I'm taking away from this summit. Not just insights about MarTech or AI, but a reminder of why I loved doing academic counseling back in my college days, and why peer support during my UNHCR days felt so meaningful.

It's all the same work, just through a different lens. And it's the work that matters most.

𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱: Last week at a business networking event, a speaker brought up 𝗨𝗕𝗥 (𝗨𝗻𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝗕𝘂𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻). The term was familiar, but then it struck me: I’d been practicing this all along.

It made sense. I’ve spent years in sociological work, focused on understanding pain and human motivation. Every path led back to one thing: the necessity of making decisions.

In my latest white paper, I argue that the Unique Buying Reason (UBR) isn’t a marketing gimmick, it’s the deepest human driver behind every decision, from grabbing a coffee to risking everything for safety.

This piece is my anchor philosophy as a founder. I call it The UBR Imperative.
