A nomadic Himba tribeswoman preparing ochre dirt for bathing on the floor of her mud hut in the North of Namibia.
Himba women are not allowed to bath using water. Apparently this is due to the harsh conditions they roam within where water is scarce and only reserved for drinking. However, personal hygiene is maintained by rubbing ochre dirt on their skin and bathing in smoke.

Hot days call for significant cooling down measures! This young bloke in India sent it straight off a ledge into the cool (stale) water of the Stepwell in Jodhpur, India for a well deserved mid day dip.

When and myself had finally succumb to the reality that the wheels had well and truly fallen off our plan, we were lost, 11 hours up a river, in the middle of the jungle and sceptical of our makeshift crew.
From our stranded canoe, a small Mentawai Shaman carrying a machete found us and started encouraging us into the thick jungle towards his self-built Uma (home).
Our first impressions were sketchy as a wall of skulls faced back at us, amongst bows and arrows, spears, blades and other hunting tools.
There’s meaning behind the placement of objects adorning the homes of Mentawai Sikerei which generally relate to pleasing the spirits and encouraging future health and prosperity.
Needless to say, the boys were on edge that first night, ha!

A little 10 day roady recap, driving from Burleigh up to Darwin. Partly to help my sister move across the country and partly to snap some pics along the way.
A few car hiccups kept us fairly on the main roads but still some epic sights along the way. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a staycation within Aus.
