After 9 years in quasi private equity, and a successful exit, it was time that I too made an exit to something different.
Despite loving many aspects of my job, I had become uncomfortably comfortable over the past few years … waking up, working hard, receiving my paycheque and repeat. And while I was very thankful for the opportunity, and was able to use funds to help others (which was exciting and fulfilling), I was becoming increasingly numb, not living the life I felt I was truly called for.
Sharing this with a life coach that my company hired for me, she too agreed that it was time for me to move on and re-align with my values. (If anyone would like me to send them the value assessment I used, please DM me your email and I can send it to you - of all the skills and personality assessments I completed, I found this the most impactful…and simple).
Having now moved on (after giving a 9 month notice) I step into the unknown. Already I’ve questioned my decision a few times (due primarily to the financial step back), however when I think of the life I want to live, the difference I hope to make, I’m quickly reassured of my choice.
Wanting to focus more on my family, health, adventure, making a difference, creative projects and my beliefs, (6 of my top 10 values) we’ve decided to take off the remainder of 2023.
Anje went on a trip with her mom and I went on a solo mission to Namibia. 17 days in one of the most sparsely populated countries on earth.
1 guy. 1 tent. 1 bakkie (pickup). 1 notebook. 1 book. 1 camera…. to plan, think, and pray about what’s to come… along with some adventure and photography.
I hope you like the photos to come!
