If we are really lucky we get to be a fleeting part of this land's story. There one moment and then gone. Like one day's sun moving across a valley. Tomorrow will be another day and someone else's turn. I wonder if they will take the time to look for shadows in the old trunks. Feel the smooth weathered ridges with their finger tips or sit in the shade as we did.

'The Elders' series honors these spirits of Africa that came before us and those that will (hopefully) long out live us. Take time to sit with them, listen and learn. They still have so much to teach.

I remember great trees of my childhood. Some even played a roll in my mother and her siblings games and imaginations. Cracked black and white photos show smiling children who grew to be adults long past who's names I can't recall. But the tree... The castle, the ship, the circus trapeze! Him I recall.
