As part of the strong and growing creative relationship between Nigeria and Canada, today my Office welcomed Mr. David Sproule, High Commissioner (Acting) of Canada to Nigeria; Mr. Carlos Rojas Arbulu, Deputy High Commissioner; and Ms. Funmike Sojinuga, Trade Commissioner, for a continued conversation on the creative industries and the diverse platforms we share for collaboration between our countries.

I expressed how encouraged we remain by Canada’s consistent openness to and support for the creative industries, as well as the opportunities this creates for our creatives to collaborate across borders.

From the global platform that the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) provides for filmmakers, to the Flavours of Nigeria Festival and the forthcoming staging of The Headies in Canada, the relationship between our two creative landscapes is increasingly finding expression in platforms that bring our talent, stories and cultural identities into closer rhythm.

The engagement provided an opportunity to reflect on how we can further cultivate this partnership, building bridges that do more than connect two nations, but create enduring impact for Nigerian and Canadian creatives alike.

The work, as always, continues - for the growth and prosperity of our nation’s creative economy.

My Office, in partnership with Insurtainment, convened the inaugural Insurtainment Policy & Industry Forum, a pivotal gathering that brought Nigeria’s insurance industry and creative industry into one room for honest, deliberate, and solution-driven dialogue in pursuit of a shared national objective.

The Forum convened major insurance bodies, creative guilds, a key legislator on the focal point of the meeting, Hon. Ahmadu Usman Jaha, Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Insurance & Actuarial Matters, and some of the nation’s most respected creative veterans and industry leaders. Across three carefully curated panel sessions, keynote addresses, and robust stakeholder conversations, we examined what meaningful protection must look like for the creative and the creative institution.

It was my honour to facilitate and champion an initiative that aligns with the vision of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR and the extraordinary plan of Hon. Hannatu Musa Musawa Hannatu Musawa, Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy.

I commend Temitayo Akpan Abuja Insurance & Entertainment Broker Insurtainment Buzz Founder and Visionary of Insurtainment, alongside every stakeholder whose presence and contributions made our conversations both impactful and historic.

My Office remains ever committed to asking the necessary questions, convening the right stakeholders, and building the partnerships required to unlock new opportunities for Nigeria’s creative economy.

It was my pleasure to return to Ilorin for the second edition of Kwara Kre8 Kwara Kre8tives founded by Mr. Debisi Onifoto.

I spoke on the topic, “From Creativity to Prosperity: Building Nigeria’s Next Economic Powerhouse,” where I reflected on the imperative of recognising that one of Nigeria’s greatest advantage lies in the ingenuity and creativity of her people.

Perhaps one of my predominant takeaways was not merely the impeccable quality of our conversations, but the continuity of the relationships. Kwara Kre8 illustrated that enduring creative ecosystems are not only the product of sporadic moments of inspiration, but also of the sustained convergence of people, ideas, and purpose over time.

Today’s engagements served as a compelling reminder that the work of governance achieves its highest impact when public leadership, anchored in an attentive posture, converges with strategic collaboration, cultural influence, and global engagement.

I had the pleasure of receiving Bakare Mubarak Founder of BILARTERAL, and his team, following an impactful international mission across Atlanta, Alabama, and New York - an effort strengthened by the Office’s involvement and by the organization’s strong credibility within the international creative ecosystem. The mission further amplified Nigeria’s voice in critical global conversations around culture, creativity, and innovation.

The second engagement was of equal significance: a meeting with Khalid Ahmed, and members of the creative team behind Nigerian Idol, whose production recently earned the prestigious recognition of “Best Unscripted M-Net Original” at the 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.

Day after day, year after year, one of the greatest rewards of my role has been the opportunity to engage with Nigerian creatives, innovators, and cultural leaders whose work continues to redefine Africa’s narrative with boldness and brilliance.

From the inception of this office, it has remained my privilege to be part of the work of creatives, whether through facilitation, collaboration, advocacy, or diplomatic engagement.

Recently had the privilege of visiting the Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission . His commitment to transforming Nigeria’s communications landscape is both inspiring and instructive. The reforms he is driving from regulatory excellence to digital inclusion are a testament to purposeful and visionary leadership. We also shared ideas on the powerful synergy between the creative sector and the communications sector two industries that must work closely together to truly unlock Nigeria’s digital and cultural potential.
