1. Build an audience.
Even 500 people who consistently pay attention to what you do can become valuable when you launch something, need support or have something important to say.
2. Get a job.
Recruiters and organisations already check people's digital presence. Sometimes your social media page can tell them more about you than your CV does.
3. Get customers.
A person can see your work today and remember you six months later when they need exactly what you offer.
4. Get opportunities.
Speaking invitations. Collaborations. Partnerships. Grants. Features. Projects. Sometimes people simply need to know that you exist.
5. Build credibility.
When you consistently share what you know and show your work, your name starts becoming associated with your expertise.
6. Raise money when you need it.
We've seen Nigerians use social media to raise funds for medical bills, emergencies, businesses and other urgent needs. An audience can become a lifeline.
7. Get help.
Sometimes, one post reaching the right person can move an issue that you've been struggling with privately.
8. Defend yourself.
We've seen people bring situations online and get public attention, legal support, institutional intervention or simply witnesses because their story was no longer happening in silence.
9. Create leverage.
You may have no office, no billboard and no huge marketing budget.
But you can have a phone + internet + an audience.
And that combination can take you surprisingly far.
Visibility isn't vanity.
It's leverage.
And you don't build leverage the day you need it.
You build it before you need it.
