Joy as an act of resistance
A spirit brings forth into remembrance all the selves it has killed in other to feel like itself. - Kam, 2018.

It came clear as day- the instruction to hang on for dear life only this time it was from a post on IG from (slide for the instruction). I was in my room, eyes tired from crying and just done with living and it came.

I took a screenshot and made it my wallpaper for a year.

The thing about spirit is that it never dies, it just changes form (OC said this)

Yet 5years later- their words still ring true.

“Who told you, you can’t have everything?”

The images took of me is proof that I can, feet steady- dug deep into joy- dragging it bloody and leaving it at my feet.

I like how I look now - mature and a lot of light. My sleeve fits more.

These images embody me in full form, they are an accurate representation of myself and I genuinely have Favour to thank for them, she saw me clearly and dear God - I shine.

I am currently learning to stop using stress as a disguise to mask how afraid I am.

I am afraid to take this photography thing that started as a thing to save my life and reclaim my voice and turn it into an avenue to help people express themselves and find joy while still making money.

A lot is changing and even though I am fearful- I’ll do it.

So here is a reminder to you too- no let fear stop you. Werey dey disguise.

If you have to birth a thing; you’ve got to push.

Watching Journey of an African Colony on Netflix and I am mad and there is bile in my throat but this education is important.

it is no news that they intentionally don't teach this at schools so as to keep us ignorant.

Yes, our history is shameful and traumatic but you will not erase it. Show us our brothers who betrayed us to the white people and let us know never to try it again.

Watch it if you haven't seen it yet.

That's why they have paid off press houses to stifle the movement because once you have no knowledge you will not see the injustice and demand for transparency.

Anyway F**k Lord Lugard and F**k the British Empire oh F**k the Nigerian Government who are just puppets learning and doing their masters bidding.
