Gweje of Africa Life in frames

26/07/2026

You start by looking for a way out.
You stare into mirrors, hoping to see a reflection of a life that doesn’t feel so hard.

You see the green. You see the fire. You see everything you are fighting for.
But somewhere along the line, the dream became a heavy thing.

They handed you a gold frame and told you this is what success looks like.
So you tried to fit inside it.
You bent backward. You carried it on your shoulders.

You twisted your roots just to make sure you looked good for the picture.
But look at you.
You are a river. You are a tree.
You were never meant to be confined to a box built by people who don’t know your soil.

The weight you are carrying right now? It’s not your purpose.
It’s just an expectation.

I have finally put the frame down.
When are you going to step out of yours?

Honestly, we didn’t have a plan.
We said Eid. We said let’s just shoot. That was the whole brief.

I think the best work I’ve ever made came out of moments like that when there’s no client, no mood board telling you what it’s supposed to look like. Just two people who trust each other’s eye and decide to see what happens when you stop overthinking and just create.

What did here though, Ineed you to look properly. Because when they showed up, she had already told the whole story. The colour, the precision, the way everything sits together. I didn’t need to direct anything. I just needed to find the light that understood what she’d already said.

My job was to listen. Hers was to speak first.
This is what collaboration actually looks like when it works. Not two people compromising. Two people building on each other until something comes out that neither of you could have made alone.

To everyone celebrating Eid, we hope your season feels a little like this.

Some weeks ago, I got a call from a friend ( ) about covering a training session at her studio.

She didn’t even finish explaining before I said yes 😄
I’m always open to working with people who have vision and passion.

The session was beautiful to watch.

There was a hair installation training (by ) then makeup was done on the model, and after everything came together, we stepped in to capture the final look properly.

And honestly… this is why I love what I do.

Seeing creatives pour their skill into their craft.
Watching the transformation happen step by step.
Then freezing that final result in a way that does it justice.

If you’re a makeup artist, hairstylist, or creative planning a class, training, or event — don’t let all that hard work go undocumented.

Let’s work.

Drop a 🔥 if you love seeing creatives grow.
Or send me a message if you have something coming up.
