“Oh wow! Who painted this?”

That’s the first question everyone asks when they see this image on my wall.

At first glance, would you think it’s a painting or a photograph?

Sometime in January, during one of my usual weekend calls with my mum, she casually mentioned, “Your dad will be 70 this year ooo…” and I half-expected her to follow up with, “Yoh Yoh Yoh… I’m kidding!”

I just laughed because, honestly, my dad never looked 70 to me. I knew he was getting older, but 70? That didn’t seem real. Then I did the math—subtracted his birth year from the present—and reality hit me… Oh wow! My dad is 70!

It’s one thing to know someone is aging; it’s another to fully grasp what that means. I’ve had the privilege of watching my dad’s journey—especially through his 40s—and witnessing the man he has become. A man of strength, resilience, and unwavering presence.

Growing up, I saw my dad as a strong, steady force, always providing, always showing up. But adulthood gave me a different lens—it made me realize the weight of his sacrifices, the struggles he never spoke of, and the silent battles he fought to give us the life we have today.

So today, I just want to say…

Thank you, Dad.
For being present.
For the sacrifices you made without ever seeking recognition.
For the life lessons that shaped not just you, but all of us.
For your wisdom, your kindness, your unwavering strength.
For being more than a father—for being a man we can all look up to.

Well, now I can officially call you Old Pops—because you are! But with age comes grace, and my prayer is that this next chapter of your life is filled with strength, love, joy, and every blessing you’ve ever prayed for.

Now that you’re finally enjoying the fruits of your labor, may nothing steal your joy—not now, not ever.

As we celebrate 70 today, we will celebrate 80, 90, and beyond!

Happy Birthday, my Old Man! Love you forever!❤️❤️

I recently came across the inspiring words of Dr. Kent M. Keith, often associated with Mother Teresa and her compassionate work in Calcutta, India and I’d thought to share.

This timeless piece, titled “Do It Anyway,” is a powerful reminder of the strength and selflessness required to do good in the face of life’s challenges. It captures the essence of resilience, faith, and unwavering commitment to kindness:
—-
People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered. - Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. - Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and true enemies. - Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you. - Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight. - Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous. - Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow. - Do good anyway.

At the end of the day, it is between you and God; It was never between you and them anyway.

These words carry profound meaning, encouraging us to act with integrity and perseverance despite the unpredictability of others’ responses or the fragility of human gratitude.

They challenge us to focus not on the rewards or recognition but on the deeper fulfillment that comes from living according to our values and principles.

Al-Mutanabbi once said, “The beauty of the world lies in the eyes of the beholder.” - Yet for millions of people around the world, cataracts cloud that beauty, turning light into shadow and vibrancy into darkness.

Cataracts, a leading cause of vision impairment and blindness, are more than a medical condition. They are a barrier—separating individuals from the richness of life and the simple joys of seeing.

While they often develop with age, factors such as diabetes, prolonged UV exposure, and eye injuries also contribute to their onset. They remain a significant driver of blindness, especially in developing regions where access to healthcare services is limited.

Documenting this project has been one of the most humbling experiences of my life. It deepened my understanding of the extraordinary gift of sight, a sense so integral to our connection with the world yet often taken for granted.

Through my lens, I witnessed the subtle ways vision shapes our reality—from the ability to see a loved one’s smile to the colors of the sunrise. I saw the lives of people profoundly impacted by the loss of sight, and I felt the weight of what it means to be unable to see the world’s beauty.

The overwhelming number of people suffering from cataracts was a sobering reminder of the urgent need for action. It also gave me hope — hope in the power of collaboration.

Governments, non-profits, private organizations, and individuals working together, have the potential to rewrite this narrative. By raising awareness, increasing education, and ensuring access to affordable treatment, we can help restore vision and transform lives.

This experience has been a call to action, a reminder that small efforts—whether raising awareness, volunteering, or advocating for change—can collectively build a world where no one is denied the beauty of sight. It is a vision of hope, collaboration, and shared humanity, and one that I am deeply committed to supporting.

Chief Sunday Adeniyi Adegeye

King Sunny Adé (popularly know) was not only a pioneer of the Juju music genre but a cultural ambassador whose influence transcended borders, genres, and generations - A king whose throne was the stage, and whose kingdom stretched across the globe.

Growing up, KSA’s music was ever-present in my life. I vividly remember my dad playing his albums on repeat—his songs became the soundtrack of my childhood. Over time, I realized I had memorized many of his lyrics simply from hearing them so often. His music wasn’t just background noise; it was a rhythm that shaped my understanding of sound and creativity, leaving a lasting imprint on my musical journey.

I recently had the opportunity to document him, and the feeling was unlike anything I had experienced before. It became clear to me that King Sunny Adé wasn’t just a musical genius. He was a storyteller, a cultural icon, a keeper of tradition, and a beacon of creativity. His music was infused with wisdom and depth, reflecting a profound connection to his roots.

For over six decades up till now, i wonder how his music filled the airwaves with his enchanting melodies, intricate guitar work, and rich, harmonious vocals. - If you’ve ever experienced him on stage, you would agree, his music wasn’t just sound; it was an experience. He brought joy, healing, and hope through his songs, His music was more than sound; it was a living, breathing experience.

As one of my mentor will always say, you can never go wrong by just showing up! These images are a testament to that philosophy. —a memory I will forever cherish.
