Ojoyen Daily Devotional (ODD)
Topic: Justification by Resurrection vs Self-Righteousness
Date: Sunday, April 19, 2026

Bible Verse: “Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.” — Romans 4:25

Devotional: The resurrection of Jesus confirms our justification—our right standing before God. We are not made righteous by our efforts but by faith in Christ. Self-righteousness leads to pride and failure, but Christ’s righteousness brings peace and assurance. Because He rose, we are justified and accepted before God. His resurrection is God’s public declaration that the work of salvation is complete. No accusation can stand against those justified through Christ’s finished work.

Further Reading: Romans 5:1; Philippians 3:9

Justification by Resurrection Means:
1. Right standing with God
2. Righteousness through Christ
3. Peace with God
4. Assurance of salvation

Self-Righteousness Means:
1. Trust in personal effort
2. Pride and comparison
3. Insecurity
4. Lack of true peace

How to Benefit from Justification by Resurrection:
1. Believe in Christ’s work
2. Reject self-righteousness
3. Accept God’s righteousness
4. Live in peace

Real-Life Story : John Newton was once deeply involved in the transatlantic slave trade, living a life far from God. After surviving a violent storm at sea in 1748, he cried out to God for mercy. That moment marked the beginning of his conversion. He later became a pastor and wrote the famous hymn Amazing Grace, testifying to the power of justification by faith in Christ, not personal merit.

Lesson:We are justified by Christ, not by ourselves.

Fathers of the Faith Once Said:
1. Augustine of Hippo: “God justifies the ungodly, not by making them righteous first, but in order to make them righteous.”
2. Martin Luther: “Faith is a living, daring confidence in God’s grace, so sure and certain that a man would stake his life on it a thousand times.”
3. Charles Spurgeon: “I have no hope except in the blood and righteousness of Jesus Christ.”

Reflection Questions:
1. Am I trusting in Christ or myself?
2. Do I struggle with self-righteousness?
3. Do I have peace with God?

Prayer: Father, thank You for justification through the resurrection of Jesus. Help me to reject self-righteousness and rest fully in Your grace. Amen.

Topic: Eternal Hope vs Endless Cycles

Bible Verse: “Blessed be the God which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.” 1 Pet 1:3

Devotional: The resurrection of Christ gives us a living hope—an eternal future secured in Him. This hope is not uncertain or temporary. Unlike beliefs in endless cycles, Christ offers a clear and glorious destiny. Our future is not a repetition but a fulfillment. In Him, we have assurance of eternal life. This hope anchors our souls even in seasons of difficulty, reminding us that our present struggles are not the end of our story. It lifts our perspective beyond temporary circumstances and fixes our eyes on God’s eternal promises.

Eternal Hope Means:
1. Assured future
2. Living hope
3. Eternal life
4. Confidence in Christ

Endless Cycles Mean:
1. Repetition of life
2. Uncertainty
3. No final destination
4. Lack of assurance

How to Benefit from Eternal Hope:
1. Believe in Christ
2. Focus on eternity
3. Live with purpose
4. Encourage others

Real-Life Story: John, a man in his early forties, lost his job and shortly after, his wife fell seriously ill. Overwhelmed by fear and uncertainty, he began to question the meaning of life and felt trapped in a cycle of hardship. One evening, he attended a small fellowship where the message of Christ’s resurrection and eternal hope was shared. For the first time, he understood that his life was not defined by repeated struggles but by a secure future in Christ.
He gave his life to Christ and began to grow in faith. Though his circumstances did not change overnight, his outlook did. He found peace, renewed strength, and a sense of purpose. Over time, he became a source of encouragement to others facing similar trials, often reminding them, “In Christ, our story doesn’t end in pain—it ends in glory.”

Lesson: Christ gives a certain and eternal hope.

Fathers of the Faith Once Said:
1. Peter: “A living hope that endures beyond trials and leads to an incorruptible inheritance.”
2. Augustine: “Our hope is not in fleeting things, but in Christ, where the soul finds its true rest.”
3. Martin Luther: “Our hope rests in God’s eternal promise, not in the uncertainty of this world.”
4. Charles Spurgeon: “Hope in Christ is the anchor of the soul, firm and steadfast through every storm.”

Reflection Questions:
1. Where is my hope anchored?
2. Do I live with eternity in mind?
3. Am I encouraged by this hope?

Further Reading: Titus 1:2; Hebrews 6:19

Prayer: Father, thank You for the eternal hope we have in Christ. Help me to live with confidence in this promise and encourage others with this truth. Strengthen my faith daily. Amen.

Bible Verse:
“I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore.” — Revelation 1:18

Devotional:
Jesus is not just a historical figure—He is alive forevermore. While many leaders lived and died, Christ rose again and continues to reign. He is active, present, and involved in our lives today. This makes Christianity a living faith, not just a historical belief. Because He lives, we can experience His power daily. Unlike dead religious leaders whose influence is limited to memory and teachings, Christ continues to speak, guide, and intervene in the lives of believers. While their graves mark the end of their works, the empty tomb of Christ signifies an ongoing reign and an ever-present help for all who trust in Him.
