When it comes to photography, the type of lighting that you use is the most important element in the composition of any image. Light in photography refers to how the light source, natural or artificial and how the position of light source relates to your subject.

The position and quality of light can affect any number of things in your final image, from clarity to tone to emotion and so much more. By paying attention to how light plays off the angles and curves of your subject and which parts of the subject are illuminated and which are in darkness, you will become a stronger photographer because you’ll start to learn how to harness your light source in the most effective way for any given composition and project.

Whether you’re shooting portrait or landscape photography, so much of your lighting choices will depend on the features of the subject and how you want them to be portrayed in your photos. For example, hard light is more severe and will emphasize angles and any surface that are not perfectly flat, like the waves at a beach, whilst soft light will always smooth over these features.

Understanding how to make the best use of natural and artificial lighting in every situation will be a huge step forward in your journey to improving and producing the best possible images.

The Amsterdam School (Dutch: Amsterdamse School) is a style of architecture that arose from 1910 through about 1930 in the Netherlands. The Amsterdam School movement is part of international Expressionist architecture, sometimes linked to German Brick Expressionism.

Buildings of the Amsterdam School are characterized by brick construction with complicated masonry with a rounded or organic appearance, relatively traditional massing, and the integration of an elaborate scheme of building elements inside and out: decorative masonry, art glass, wrought ironwork, spires or "ladder" windows (with horizontal bars), and integrated architectural sculpture. The aim was to create a total architectural experience, interior and exterior.

The Amsterdam School style spread beyond architecture to encompass interior design, with the result that items ranging from furniture and carpets to lamps and clocks were produced. Interest revived in the 1970s as well as at the beginning of the 21st century.

The group of monuments at Mahabalipuram occupy an important place amongst the classical monuments of India. Situated close to the sea, the monolithic and cave temples offer an incomparable experience of the ancient Indian architecture and sculpture.

Mahabalipuram received World Heritage Site status in 1984, and attracts visitors from across the country and the world. The ancient tradition of stone carving is still alive in the region, and rhythmic sounds of hammer and chisel on stone afford a glimpse of how these monuments, rock-cut caves and sculptures came into being, almost fifteen hundred years ago.

Shinto weddings, Shinzen kekkon (神前結婚, "Marriage before the kami"), began in Japan during the early 20th century, popularized after the marriage of Crown Prince Yoshihito and his bride, Princess Kujo Sadako.

The ceremony relies heavily on Shinto themes of purification, and involves ceremonial sake drinking of three cups three times, the nan-nan-san-ku-do. Shinto weddings are in decline. Fewer Japanese people get married, and those who do often choose Western-style chapel ceremonies.

The Shinto wedding is a modern invention. The first mention of a wedding in a Shinto manual was in 1872; weddings were not reported until the 1880s. These weddings were limited to the families of Shinto priests. Earlier Shinto weddings were a family gathering without religious significance, aside from the occasional appearance of female dancers, katsurame, said to protect the bride from demons.

Scholars suggest that the adoption of religious wedding ceremonies was driven by the decline of state-sponsored Shinto shrines during the 1880s. A rash of new ceremonies emerged in this period, including visits for newborns and on certain birthdays.

From the first “clap” to theatrical release, the on-set photographer is primarily responsible for documenting the behind-the-scenes process of filming. They will work with the director or cinematographer to define the specific photographic requirements. This may include photography of the production, actors on set, sets, costumes or props.

These images are invaluable in creating memories of the creative process of the film or series. During filming, the set photographer must therefore be careful to capture key moments and important actions in the making of the film, while respecting confidentiality requirements and the rules of the set.

In addition to filming, the on-set photographer may be asked to take specific publicity shots for the film or series. This may include photoshoots with the cast, individual or group portraits, behind-the-scenes images, etc. These images will be used for posters, websites, social media, press articles and actor portfolios. Most of them are taken in the studio.

So the set photographer wears two hats. They are photojournalists when documenting the shoot, and publicity photographers when promoting the film, TV show or play to the public and press.

July 11th is the most important day in Mongolia’s calendar: it marks the start of the Naadam Games. This is the biggest sporting festival in Central Asia, where wrestlers, archers and horse riders vie to be the overall champion. It is also the one occasion for tribes to come together from all over this vast country to catch up on the gossip, eat, drink and get married.

We followed the toddler-horse riders, king-wrestlers and the “five horses of Airag” during this grand social and sporting event for the fiercest nomads in Asia.

Mehrangarh Fort - Jodhpur - India

Mehrangarh Fort covers an area of 1,200 acres (486 hectares) in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India. The fort was named Mehrangarh, meaning 'fort of the sun' – a reference to the clan's mythical descent from the sun god Surya.

The complex is located on a hilltop around 122 metres above the surrounding plain, and was constructed c. 1459 by Rajput ruler Rao Jodha, though most of the existing structure is from the 17th century.

The Bulldog and High Cuisine teamed up to create a drink that is unique in just about every way. We balanced the flavour and the power of Kratom to find the sweet spot between smooth taste and a great, euphoric feeling.

There’s nothing quite like Kratombucha, but you might compare it with a beer. It’s easy to drink and gives you a happy feeling, but without the alcohol. Like alcohol, Kratombucha is best consumed in moderation and in general three drinks will give you the best feeling, but this varies from person to person.

“Ghoonghat” is yet another custom that has been followed for ages in most of the rural areas of Northern India, mainly in Haryana and Rajasthan.

The practice of ghoonghat is said to have originated during the 14th century. Legend says it was when Rana Ratansen of Chittorgarh lost the battle to Alauddin Khilji after Alauddin Khilji fell in love with the queen of Chittorgarh, “Rani Padmavati” (Padmini).

When Alauddin Khilji heard about the unparalleled beauty of Rani Padmini, he desperately wanted to meet her. Hoping to meet Rani Padmavati, Khilji sent word to Rana Ratansen he would be honored to meet him. Rana Ratansen invited Khilji as his guest, not knowing the sole reason that Khilji wanted to visit the fort was to see Rani Padmini. Khilji requested Rana Ratansen to see a glimpse of Rani Padmini. Since a Rajput never refuses their guests’ requests, he decided to show him Rani’s reflection in a mirror. As Khilji saw her reflection, he was taken aback with her breath-taking beauty. As such, he planned to attack Chittorgarh to win her.

When he entered the fort after winning the battle, he only finds the ashes of the queen as she decided to perform “Jauhar”, (a practice where women burn themselves alive) rather than to submit herself to his lust.

From that day, women of Rajasthan and surrounding states started to wear ghoonghat in the presence of anyone outside their family.
