Father's and their children is a subject close to my heart. My younger sister and I were brought up by our father from a young age, it's not a perfect story, but it's our story. In my early 30's I made a series of portraits of adult women who told me their story and chose the location they wanted to be portrayed with their father. These days, now that I am a mother with a grown son, I photograph men who are willing to be photographed with their newborn or young baby. Thanks to the men who have worked with me thus far. xo

Towards the end of summer 2013, I came across these youngsters hanging out in the park.
Seeing them reminded me of my childhood memories of endless summers, and I asked if I could photograph them.
This is one of the many photos I took of the Homeruskwartier in the then-Newtown Almere Poort between 2012 and 2021 that I'm currently reviewing for a publication that will be presented in 2026.

While documenting the development of Dutch Newtown Almere Poort in 2013, the township seemed to be deserted, the exception being the supermarket Albert Heijn, where multitudes of high school students purchased their snacks during lunchtime.

I love this photo because of how the two boys are looking into my camera. These guys remind me of my son, who was also attending high school in Amsterdam in this period.

Later his father and I discovered that our son didn't eat any of the healthy sandwiches we made for him. He stuffed them into his backpack, preferring to spend his allowance on purchasing Albert Heijn supermarket snacks.

Looking at this photo makes me happy. It was a super cold day and I was feeling miserable, but when I saw this family I needed to photograph them. The light wasn't great, but the moment was.

The photo was made in 2013 and is part of a larger series that I made of this township while it was being built.

The roommates.

For a lifetime I’ve been photographing my son Jim since his birth. But, when looking back on my images, that feeling of a “lifetime’ is no longer there, as he is now a grown man living his own life. The photos have become what they truly are—a memory from the past, albeit a beloved memory.

This series of photos was made of my son and his roommates in 2021. For my son, this was his first apartment, living away from home. They are part of a larger series made on assignment for Stichting De Stadverbeeldt, which awarded three photographers to photograph Generation Z.

I have always loved photographing my son early in the morning or when he was sleeping. I explained to the roommates why I wanted to photograph them while they were sleeping, and they agreed, giving me the keys to their apartment and allowing me to enter and make pictures anytime that was convenient for me.

Random photos of my daily life anno 2008

Many of my photographer colleagues can quickly find the digital images they are looking for, no matter how long ago they were made, because of their excellent use of key words and other tools.
For some reason I haven’t quite mastered this concept and usually find my favorite digital pictures from the past because I felt they were important enough to save as TIFF files, such as these snapshots made with my Ricoh GR camera.

Despite the chaos, I have a fully backed-up digital archive.
