Wishing all my business partners, clients and future clients a healthy and relaxing Christmas.

This year has been special to all of us. I am happy I could still help with my volunteering for many parents, while my business was struggeling a lot. Instead of business events my focus evolved more onto life events, like birth reportages or the creation of everlasting memories during funerals. Especially in these emotional environments social distancing and face masks are something challenging - which makes an unique and touching photo reportage even more important. With pride I can look back on great projects, lovely clients and many challenges.

I will relax and reflect during the quiet period - and am looking forward to many great encounters with my camera and awesome people next year!

Is this photo worth only 10 Cents?

For many years I am doing stock photography, which means I am selling pictures via platforms that individuals, companies or media can buy and publish. As a photographer I am getting a little share of the fee from the agency.

The worlds biggest seller Shutterstock recently announced a change in their pricing model towards photographers: "The new compensation model allows contributors to receive a true percentage share from each download, rewarding content creators for producing quality work that is fresh, relevant and currently in demand by our customers."

After e-mailing back and forth what this would mean in numbers, I now received the first sales under the new pricing model. The first picture I sold in June was this one. I received 10 US Cent for this one and all the other pictures I sold this months.
Do you think it is worth only 10 US Cents? This is a drop of at least 60% (depending on the status the contributor and the buyer had in the past - I earned between 25 US Cents and severyl US $ per download). Next to the shooting it is very time consuming to edit, to tag and upload the picture, especially with Shutterstock. They are not really known for an intuitive entry mask and struggle frequently with reading out meta data correctly from the file itself.
Especially in times, where the whole industry is collapsing, and almost all commercial shootings were put on hold I have absolutely no understanding for the behavior Shutterstock is showing right now. From today on I have deactivated my account with them and will only focus on my other partners that offer a fair share, like Dreamstime, getty images or Adobe Stock. Please help me in spreading the word, please do not buy stock with shutterstock anymore!

I have put together with love a reportage about 'still Amsterdam' as a Corona Chronicle and am happy to see it selling very well in editorials, from now on only on Getty and Dreamstime (Adobe does not offer Editorial picutures for the time being). It helped me balancing my losses a bit and was and still is a real fun project, combining my love for Amsterdam and Reportage photography.

Spring is usually my busiest time of the year. This year - everything is different, also for me.
So I could enjoy the beauty of the nature and get some flight hours here around with a particular focus on the flower industry. I was able to create some footage I am totally in love with.
