First Sony Benelux Kando Trip. First time in Romania. And definitely my first time photographing wildlife📷🇷🇴
A few days ago, I was standing at Schiphol with around 30 photographers and filmmakers from the Benelux, having no idea where Sony Benelux was taking us. We only had a few clues: wildlife, somewhere at “the edge of Europe”, around 21 degrees and some specific clothing advice.
In the days before the trip I felt a bit like a kid going on school camp. At Schiphol we finally found out: we were going to Romania, with the Danube Delta as our final destination.
After our first day in Bucharest, we continued towards the delta. Five hours by bus and another two hours by boat later, we arrived in Mila 23, a small Lipovan village of around 400 people in the heart of the Danube Delta, only accessible by water.
The next morning, at 6, we got into small boats with our cameras while the delta woke up around us. It was peaceful, until a kingfisher flew past at full speed and suddenly everyone was trying to follow it with their cameras.
I thought padel was fast… 😅
Photographing wildlife for the first time really challenged me. Sometimes it was frustrating when I missed the shot, but that made it even better when I got it.
And maybe that was one of my favourite things about this trip: trying something completely different from what I normally photograph.
There’s still a lot more from these four days that I want to share, but I’ll start with the wildlife. 🦅
A huge thank you to Sony Benelux and Jaimy de Hon, mathilda, Jonathan, Quint and Sacha for inviting me and putting all of this together. And to everyone I got to share the boats, early mornings and this experience with🙏🏽
