In 2018 kwam de eerste Polestar Engineered-lijn op de markt met de S60 T8 Twin Engine Polestar Engineered.

Kenmerken: Brembo-remmen, Öhlins-ophanging, software-optimalisatie, visuele accenten (goud, zwart), en uitgebreide standaarduitrusting.

Uitgebreid naar V60 en XC60.

Doel: plug-in hybrides sportiever maken, zonder comfort en duurzaamheid te verliezen.

Polestar Performance als semi-officiële partner (2009–2015)

Volvo zag potentie en ging officieel samenwerken: Polestar Performance werd de “huis-tuner” voor Volvo.

Dit leidde tot speciale modellen zoals de Volvo S60 Polestar Concept (2012) met 508 pk en de productieversies van de S60 en V60 Polestar (2014).

De samenwerking legde nadruk op veiligheid + snelheid: sportwagens die nog steeds de Volvo-veiligheidsnormen haalden.

De ontwikkeling van Volvo’s Polestar Engineered-tak is eigenlijk het verhaal van hoe een kleine Zweedse racetuner uitgroeide tot een officieel performance-label binnen een grote, duurzame autofabrikant.

Oorsprong in de racerij (1996–2009)

Begon in 1996 als Flash Engineering, het team dat Volvo’s deelname verzorgde in het Zweedse Toerwagenkampioenschap (STCC).

In 2005 werd de naam Polestar Racing aangenomen, en de ingenieurs begonnen off-track ook straatauto’s te optimaliseren.

In deze periode ontwikkelde Polestar tuningkits en chassisaanpassingen voor Volvo’s sportiefste modellen, vaak geïnspireerd op hun race-ervaring.
