I was invited by to wander and wonder at the "Groote Museum". This building, part of the Zoo, has been closed for about 70 years. But now restorations are in full progress and hopefully next year it will be open.
1th of may, 1838, Artis was founded. In the beginning it was a society, that wanted to promote the knowledge of Natural History. Artis was situated along a canal, but as visitors could come in at any time, a dam build and now the canal is a pond.
Between 1852 and 1855 het "Groote Museum" was build, with the intention to showcase Natural Historical items as fossils, skeletons, etc. Also temporary exhibitions could be held here.
In 1947, because of financial problems the doors closed for the "Groote Museum"
But now, new beginnings! The building will be a museum, space for parties and meetings. From what I have seen up to now, that will be amazing. Even the old stairs will be there again.
Here the big main hall. This will be available for exhibitions, party and meetings. I can imagine every event will be spectacular! šArtis Amsterdam
