"Big boy"

Big stag gathering strength for the upcoming rutting season. Impressive and beautiful animal, a pleasure to watch. 😎

Groot hert dat aan het opvetten is voor de aankomende Bronst. Een indrukwekkend en prachtig dier, een waar genoegen om te bewonderen 😎

"Vulpes vulpes"

In other words, the (red/common) fox.

This rascal (no idea if it's a male or female) was happily hunting in a field when I spotted him. While I was observing and photographing him, the animal suddenly took off because of a few walkers.

I had a feeling the animal would come back and took the opportunity to position myself better.

After waiting for about fifteen minutes, I suddenly saw movement on the other side of the field. And sure enough, there he/she was again. Eventually, after a lot of stalking, I sat down somewhere, hoping the animal would come towards me. Patience is a virtue, and in this case, that proved to be true once again. Slowly, he/she came towards me, to within about 30 meters.

All in all, I was able to enjoy it for over an hour, although unfortunately a lot of photos weren't sharp due to heavy heat haze over the field. Nevertheless, I still have a few very nice keepers, so for now, I'll be spamming you with fox photos. 😋

"Redstart"

AKA de gekraagde Roodstaart, een vrouwtje in dit geval.
Blijkbaar een bijzondere waarneming, niet omdat ze zo zeldzaam zijn maar vanwege de plek, vertelde een aanwezige vogelaar. Deze dame zit nl in een wilg ergens midden in een moeras/wetland terwijl ze normaal halfopen landschappen, tuinen en parken prefereren.

Meet the Common Redstart, a female in this case.

Apparently a special sighting, not because they are so rare but because of the location, a local birdwatcher explained. This lady is sitting in a willow somewhere in the middle of a marsh/wetland, whereas they normally prefer semi-open landscapes, gardens, and parks.

Een ochtendje met de Mrs op zoek naar edelherten. En jawel, een groot roedel van hindes, kalfjes en spitsers kruiste ons pad in een magisch moment met prachtig licht.

A morning with the Mrs. looking for red deer. And yes, a large herd of does, fawns, and spikers crossed our path in a magical moment with beautiful light.

"Honey"

Vanmorgen vroeg op en tijdens de poging de edelherten te vinden kwam deze wespendief over vliegen. Dat was al een primeur, aangezien ik ze alleen van foto`s ken en nooit in het wild had gezien.

Het was nog steeds een beetje schemerig en vanwege het tegenlicht zag ik pas thuis dat de vogel een flink stuk honingraat bij zich had. Niet de meest heldere en crispy foto maar toch heel gaaf en een dikke bonus bij deze primeur 😎

Got up early this morning and while attempting to find the red deer, this honey buzzard flew over. That was already a first, since I only know them from pictures and had never seen them in the wild.

It was still a bit twilight and due to the backlight, I only saw at home that the bird was carrying a substantial piece of honeycomb. Not the clearest and sharpest of pictures but still very cool and a big bonus to this first sighting. 😎

"Close encounter"

Dit was echt wel een cadeautje, zo dichtbij als deze zeearend kwam (en 10min bleef) zitten. De spreekwoordelijke kers op de taart van deze toch al geslaagde ochtend. Dichterbij dan dit is op deze locatie praktisch niet mogelijk.

This white-tailed eagle perched really close by and stayed for 10 minutes. This was the cherry on the cake of an already great morning. Closer then this is not possible in this location. 🤩

"No threat"

Grappig hoe prooidieren exact aanvoelen wanneer een rover wel of geen dreiging is. Deze scene begon met een blauwe reiger die echt op 2 meter van de Zeearend landde en ging vissen. Ook de lepelaars zijn niet onder de indruk.

Funny how prey can sense if a predator is in hunting mode or not. This scene started with a grey Heron landing only 2 mtrs away from the white-tailed eagle and started fishing. Also the Spoonbills are not intimidated with it`s presence.

"Duet"

A couple of Spoonbills flying by in almost perfect sync. The right one is a juvenile, notice the black eye, the black wingtips and the flesh coloured bill.

For a change shot with the RF100-500L combined with the RF1.4x extender.

Een paar langsvliegende Lepelaars in bijna perfecte spiegeling van elkaar. De rechhter is echter een juveniel, herkenbaar aan de zwarte vleugeltips, het donkere oog en de vleeskleurige snavel.

Voor de verandering met de RF100-500L icm de RF 1.4x extender (700mm)
