I've been getting so many requests for affordable headshots lately that I'm planning something different…

On Thursday 26 March I'm running a taster day in Brighton - shorter sessions, relaxed vibe, and more accessible pricing (£130 less than usual).

You can book a 25-minute focused session where you get 3 polished images.

Perfect for anyone who needs a LinkedIn refresh but doesn't want to spend half their day (or budget) on it.

Nature based backdrops , proper posing guidance for camera-shy people, and photos that look like you (on a good day!)

Before I commit to this and start booking, I want to see how much interest there is.

If this sounds like something you'd be up for, I've put together a waiting list to gauge numbers.

If you've been putting off getting decent headshots because of time/cost, this might be your moment!

Join the waiting list and get all the info here at the link in my bio e

Or, comment ✋ with your email and I'll add you to the waiting list myself :)

I’ve connected with a lot of new people recently - so it’s time for a re-introduction.

I’m Sarah, a brand and headshots photographer based in Brighton and London.

Aside from working with camera-shy change makers to dial up their visibility, here are a few things to know about me…

I’m a newbie to Brighton - I got here In July after a five year adventure in Rotterdam (and actually managed to learn Dutch!).

I hail from Lancaster and get VERY excited whenever I meet a Northerner down south.

I have a lively 8 year old and our latest activities include kitchen table tennis, Beyblades and watching ‘Is It Cake?’

My teenage job was in a florist called Talking Flowers - selling wilting chrysanthemums to local pensioners.

My winter survival strategy entails a 1000 piece jigsaw, tinkling on the piano, and 3 seasons of Drag Race.

Finally, my toxic trait is leaving the tea bag in the mug until the bitter end.

Feel free to say hi in the comments! …and let me know your stance on tea brewing👇

Ever received photos of yourself and immediately zoomed in on every 'flaw'?

I had my photos taken recently by my friend Anja Poehlmann.

I love the photos, but it took me a few times of looking at them to get to that point.

The first thing I saw was stuff like:

- The wrinkles around my eyes
- Wonky teeth
- One eye smaller than the other
- The roundness of my face
- The fact my t-shirt is crumpled

But I didn’t spend long focusing on these things, mainly because of the advice I give my clients every time I send them their gallery:

You are never going to 100% love how you look, unless you’re one of the blessed few.

So take your time and get used to them.

Yeah we might have wrinkles and rolls, but what should stand out is your warmth and your energy.

The question I now ask myself is not - ‘do I look wonderful?’

Instead I ask:

‘Does this look like real, normal me? (albeit with better hair)

And

‘Am I giving off the vibe I want my clients to get from me?’

Because this is not a vanity exercise.

It’s a way to invite people into your world, share what you’re like, and give them a glimmer of what it’s like to work with you.

So, here I am taking my own advice and sharing my pics with you. Hello!

This is what I always say to my clients when I send them their images…

“It can be a LOT to suddenly see a whole gallery of yourself for the first time.

“We all tend to be self critical, so if you feel a bit confronted then that's perfectly normal!

“So if it's a lot, take a pause and return later.

It may take a few viewings to get to the point where you feel more comfortable and get past the inevitable self-critical thoughts we all struggle with.”

Why do I always say this?

Because people hone in immediately on all the things they DON’T like about their appearance.

Things like:

Their grey hairs
Their teeth
Their weight
How their hair is behaving
That thing their left eye does when they smile (that’s my personal one!)
Their wrinkles

And so on.

And you can bet that the people who see their photos would notice nothing of the sort.

I’ll be honest with you - being photographed isn’t easy - at any age or stage of life.

Often it requires a tonne of acceptance.

But being seen as you really are, and the energy you bring, is such a powerful way to connect with all those potential clients who are still getting to know you.

Are you ready to create photos that are as professional as the work you do?

I’d love to chat. Drop me a comment or book a call via the link in my profile.

I've been getting so many requests for affordable headshots lately that I'm planning something different…

On 14 October, I'm considering running a taster day in East London - shorter sessions, relaxed vibe, and more accessible pricing (£130 less than usual).

You can book a 25-minute focused session where you get 3 polished images without the full photoshoot commitment.

Perfect for anyone who needs a LinkedIn refresh but doesn't want to spend half their day (or budget) on it.

Interesting East London backdrops, proper posing guidance for camera-shy people, and photos that actually look like you (on a good day!)

Before I commit to this and start booking, I want to see how much interest there is.

If this sounds like something you'd be up for, I've put together a waiting list to gauge numbers.

The many faces of Sarah Tulej Photography…

…I figured I should start trying to photograph myself more, and make a nice new photo for my About page.

August has been sloooooooow, so I’ve also been using it for things like:

- Finally moving my site off Wix (boycott them!) and onto Wordpress
- Making a 3 min brand film about my business with film maker Sarah Tulej
- Getting all my processes up to date so my clients have a nicer time working with me

And a lot of time scrolling LinkedIn, not gonna lie.

What do you do for your business during a quiet patch?

Couple of announcements:

If you book a Brighton photoshoot in Sept you can get 20% off all my packages.

I’m also offering 20% of all packages in London on Fri 5th Sept.

And, my super affordable mini headshots sessions are coming to London soon - keep your eyes peeled for more info!

The most useful piece of equipment I’ve added to my kit in recent years…

…wait for it…

A handheld mirror!

I was trying out a new co-working space in Hove today, and a man asked me what camera and kit I used.

And as I was saying the words to him (“a mirrorless canon bla bla 35mm lens .. bla, etc”) I was thinking how this was so not the most important thing.

Ok, the kit does matter. A lot!

But sometimes the simple stuff is the best.

And, my clients, I am pleased to say, have been VERY impressed with my innovative mirror technology.

At several points during a photoshoot, you are going to want to fiddle with your hair.

Or check your teeth for spinach.

Or check your mascara hasn’t wandered across your face.

With me, my friends, you are safe.

I can’t tell you how many times my clients say this:

When I ask them how they want to come across in their photos they usually say:

“Professional but approachable.”

Or -

“Friendly but also someone people take seriously.”

And guess what? It’s pretty much always women who say this.

Not all of them, but by far the majority. (As if, without some clever direction, people are going to see the shambling sh*t-show of a person we really are.)

And I have to think about the subtext:

- Being ‘professional’ is at odds with being friendly or warm

- Having fun is in conflict with being taken seriously

There’s nothing wrong per se, with wanting people to see us as professional and approachable.

But where is this subconscious idea of ‘professionalism’ coming from?

You can bet that patriarchy and white supremacy have something to do with it.

Clearly this is a topic for wider discussion led by people more qualified than me.

But, I will say this:

Whose standards are we upholding when we tell ourselves we need to appear professional above all else?

Rant over.

But let’s not be TOO professional and approachable, please.

Does your online presence match your real-life reputation?

Do your photos actually look like you today?

Are you showing up as the expert you've become?

My clients are exceptionally skilled professionals who've built their reputation through referrals and trust.

But at a certain point, they notice a growing disconnect between their online presence and their real-world expertise.

They already have a great reputation, they’re already experienced. But that isn’t coming across online.

They realise that, to take their career to the next level, they need to start marketing themselves in a more deliberate way, as uncomfortable as that may feel.

And that they don’t (yet) have the right visual assets to support that.

Their website, social profiles and the photos on them perhaps…

…don’t look like they do now
…are low quality
…don’t get across their warmth and values

This gap isn't just frustrating - it can limit their growth and the impact they could be making.

That’s where thoughtful, well planned, and down to earth personal branding photography comes in (with moi!)

Like Alison, a senior branding consultant who'd been using the headshot for around 7 years. Her LinkedIn photo didn’t speak to her experience or show her true personality.

After our session, she told me: “𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘮𝘢𝘥𝘦 𝘮𝘦 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 𝘴𝘰 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘢. 𝘞𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘢 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘧𝘦𝘭𝘵 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘮𝘦 - 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦, 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦.”

I work with you to design a photography session where we capture your essence. Your personality, your values, what’s most important to you.

So that your photos are as amazing as you are.

Ready to bridge that gap? Send me a message or book an informal consultation call via the link in my profile

In Brighton? You lucky thing! I’m offering special pricing at the moment - with 25% off all sessions booked in August.

Brighton friends - I need your help testing an idea! 👋

After 5 years photographing change makers on the continent, I've officially swapped Rotterdam canals for the Brighton seafront (and I'm so happy to be here).

To celebrate becoming a proper local, I'm planning a "New Neighbour" photography offer with decreasing discounts:

📸 August bookings: 25% off
📸 September bookings: 20% off
📸 October bookings: 15% off

The idea? To reward the early birds while I settle into Brighton.

My packages range from quick LinkedIn headshots (30 mins) to full personal branding experiences (3 hours).

Before I build a proper landing page, I wanted to test the waters.

Does this sound like something Brighton professionals would actually want?

⭐️ If you know anyone in Brighton/Hove/Sussex who might be interested, please tag them below!

Your recommendations mean a lot when you're the new photographer in town.

(P.S. I'll also be running regular London photography days - message me for dates)

You can book a really informal chat via the link in my profile.

Or send me message and let’s explore together.
