Did You Know “All Hallows Eve” or “Halloween” Was Once Called Samhain?
In the ninth century, Pope Gregory established November 1 as All Saints’ Day and November 2 as All Souls’ Day. Consequently, October 31 became known as All Hallows Eve, or Halloween, maintaining many traditional pagan customs until Irish immigrants brought these practices to America in the 19th century.
A word of caution: if this message stirs something within you or makes you uneasy for even a moment, it might mean I’m striking a chord. Ignorance, much like arrogance, can be a spirit, a stronghold, and it has no place in our lives, my fellow children of God!
Anton LaVey, the founder of the Church of Satan, once made a striking claim: "I am glad that Christian parents have allowed their children to worship the devil at least one night a year, during Halloween."
His intent was clear: when Christians engage in Halloween festivities, they may unwittingly be taking part in a "satanic ritual," thereby giving the devil "legal rights" in their lives, even if their intentions are innocent.
Understanding Anton LaVey’s Perspective:
The spiritual roots of Halloween trace back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, which was a time to honor the dead, celebrate the end of the harvest, and believe that the veil between the worlds was particularly thin. Today, however, many modern traditions tend to focus on secular fun—costumes, candy, and parties—often overshadowing or commercializing these ancient spiritual meanings without diminishing their impact.
Samhain was, amongst others, a time for divination, featuring rituals like "dumb suppers" (meals eaten in silence) to seek visions of one’s future partner. (This touches upon witchcraft at its core.)
My Reflection:
Often, it’s the cherished traditions we hold onto that can subtly influence us, sometimes leading us into unnecessary spiritual struggles and strongholds that might require prayer and deliverances when they wouldn't be needed!
Come November 1st, you’re free to do as you wish. But proceed with caution—the moment you or your children dress up for fun, especially with Halloween in mind, you might be opening the door to something much deeper than you realize. Regardless of your intentions, every action carries consequences—both good and bad. Just like you can run a red light and pretend it doesn’t matter, that doesn’t erase the repercussions, especially if a judge gets involved.
Let's SHARE and educate each other on this matter!
As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord (Jesus), He did not celebrate or approve of anything that doesn’t glorify Jehovah Raah. I pray for wisdom, humility, revelation and divine protection over the church and over your family.
