Steel, Water and Time...
Some structures are more than just functional buildings; they tell a story of engineering, history and human ambition. Steel, Water and Time brings these elements together in an impressive image of an iconic bascule bridge that stands out powerfully against the evening sky.
The photograph was taken during the blue hour, that magical moment between day and night when the sky takes on deep shades of blue and artificial light slowly takes centre stage. The use of a long exposure transforms the water into a mirror-smooth surface and lends the passing clouds a subtle, dynamic movement. This creates a beautiful contrast between the tranquillity of the surroundings and the robust, unyielding steel structure.
The geometric lines of the bridge immediately catch the eye and guide the viewer through the composition. The warm lighting in the steelwork creates a pleasing balance with the cool tones of the sky and water. At the same time, the image emphasises the beauty of industrial architecture: powerful, functional and surprisingly elegant.
Steel, Water and Time is an ode to Dutch engineering and the special relationship between people and water. A work of art that not only inspires admiration, but also continues to intrigue with its many details and the serene atmosphere it embodies.
