You need winter to appreciate spring.

A self portrait I captured on week 1 of the year when it started snowing and I only edited it a few days ago.

I took a long pause to recover from the pre Christmas drain. I took a break from being creative. I had lost this urge…

Winter came and is slowly morphing into spring in the Netherlands. In Cyprus it is already there as the fields are in full blossom mode.

I feel nature is telling me something…I am ready to blossom again too.

Nobody prepares you from when your baby becomes a child to becoming a teenager.

Of course I love the conversation we have about life, the stories she still shares, the way she sees the world and the things she questions.

But the times when she would come to snuggle in the morning or for afternoon cuddles are becoming less and less. And the hugs in front of friends are now almost forbidden.

Now she prefers her own bedroom to the sofa next to us whilst reading our books... And waving goodbye instead of a kiss

Time is a thief 🥲

And then my phone shows me another sweet memories of her from last summer... My baby is growing.

And then I remember how my mum used to tell us we would always be her babies. It annoyed me as young adult, less as a teen because I didn’t want to grow up then...

But now I get it. Watching my daughter grow is my second chance to a lost childhood through her & healing my heart as a mother. And this why I do what I do. I document childhood and motherhood because those photos carry your story. And when time comes, these photos will bring back feelings that are invaluable.

Don’t underestimate how much you will cherish them. Don’t wait till it is the « perfect time ».
Now is the best time it can be.
Because life is messy, busy & a gift.

Winter is officially here ❄️

So All I want to do is snuggle with my family on the sofa.

Family sessions at home are really special. They are ideal for newborn sessions and little children when it is too cold outside.

All you need is one good window.

I love planning these self-portraits with my mum and my daughter and I cannot believe I never shared these from the summer.

How much have we all changed already in a few months it feels surreal. My daughter is almost a teenager. My mum is fighting to stay in the game of life and I feel beaten up when I overdo it at work. That’s what time does to us.

So when I look through these photos of 5 months ago and the last past 4 years, I see what time did to us. But above all, I hear our giggles in between the clicks, I remember the sweet bee that came on our sunflowers for a last stop, I still feel the hot sun wrapping us up, I remember Leia telling my mum about the spider trying to climb on her dress and my mum telling her she is not sure who should be scared most. And I look at them both and feel so grateful we captured one more year of us.

We all long to slow down our children’s childhood because it is so beautiful to watch. We all want to keep an imprint of these special moments when time almost stopped.

Soon this little one will be too tall to fit in the safe nest her parents created for her to rest.
