My latest still life, created for King’s Day.
It started with a vase. I saw it and it was love at first sight. Then came the tulips from my own garden, the orange tompouce from the bakery around the corner, and the generous asparagus from Van Empel, placed like a little crown.

A Dutch ritual, seen through my Italian eyes. Styled on my own table, with daylight coming through the windows of my living room.

I have fallen a little bit for this image. Maybe you will too.

Bring this still life home.

Good Friday, for me, begins with a memory.
At the end of the early morning procession in Veroli, after walking through the town and visiting all the Sepolcri, I would go up to Nonna Ersilia’s for breakfast.
Pigna and hot chocolate were always waiting for me.
Yesterday I baked it again, after two days of mixing, resting and folding the dough.
And this morning, here in the Netherlands, we followed that same tradition.
I close my eyes and can still hear the Stabat Mater carried through the streets of Veroli.
Wishing you a peaceful Good Friday,
with a thought and prayers for peace, beyond any religion, in these dark times for humanity.

Photography doesn’t stop when the assignment ends.

Yesterday I photographed the culinary creations for a dinner at Landgoed Wolfslaar, commissioned by my client

When the work was done, I stayed a little longer inside.
Camera in hand.

The rooms.
The light.
The small details.

Too beautiful not to capture.

Looking.
Catching the light.
Collecting the details.

It’s often in those quiet moments, without a brief or expectation, that the images appear that move me the most.

Thank you for the warm hospitality.

Small confession: because these images were not meant for the client, I didn’t remove myself from the mirror in one of the photos. So if you zoom in… you might still find the photographer somewhere in the room. 📷

When I just took these meringues out of the oven, they made me think of all my sisters out there.

All attached to one another, yet each one different.
Different shapes. Different sizes. A little irregular. None trying to look like the other.

And somehow, together, they make something complete.

It reminded me of women in all stages of life.

Women building businesses, leading teams, creating new ideas, carving their own space in the world.
Women holding families together, often quietly and without applause.
Women raising children, caring for loved ones, supporting friends.
Women choosing different paths, starting over, studying, changing direction, reinventing themselves.

There are women navigating careers while carrying doubts no one else sees.
Women facing health challenges with courage.
Women learning, sometimes slowly, to take care of themselves too.

And my thoughts today also travel to the women living where life is fragile — in war zones, in places marked by uncertainty — protecting their children, rebuilding their lives, and holding on to hope in circumstances none of us would choose.

Just like these meringues: no two the same.
Each with its own shape, its own little imperfections.
Yet together they create something stronger.

To all the sisters out there — near and far, known and unknown, in every season of life.

Sending my love.
International Women’s Day. 🤍

Chef Lizzy did it again.
A new menu.
Fresh dishes, unexpected combinations, and that creativity that makes her kitchen so recognisable.
Always a pleasure to photograph the new creations and translate them into images. The colours, the textures, the little details that will soon arrive at the table.
And the photography? Just as always.
The style Lizzy loves. The atmosphere that fits .
Never change a winning team.
Thank you Angela and Jan for the trust, year after year. 🤍

I went to an event to teach… and I came home with a white orchid that turns out to be cake. 🤍
At first glance, this orchid looks like it was just picked from a greenhouse. Delicate petals, soft shades of white, every vein perfectly defined. But everything you see is entirely edible. No real flower, no hidden structure. Just pure cake design, crafted with patience and precision.
Last weekend at the Crazy Cake Event I met cake artist Michael Wehrmann . At the end of the workshops, sugar flowers and conversations about creativity, he surprised me with this incredible creation as a gift. Such an unexpected and generous gesture. I was honestly touched.
What moves me most is not only the technical mastery, but the dedication behind it. The hours. The steady hands. The commitment to detail that transforms sugar into something that feels alive. As a food photographer, these are the moments that make my heart beat a little faster. Creations like this deserve light, shadow and careful attention. You almost don’t want to cut into it… and yet you’re so curious to taste it.
Thank you, Michael for this beautiful encounter and for your kindness.
Do you know other cake artists creating edible art like this? Tag them below — I would love to discover more. 🤍
