Some birds spend all year in the Netherlands, this way I can see and photography them at different times of the year. In the winter months there colours are more dull to blend in with the winter weather and not to be eaten by predators. An in the spring they are looking for a mate so then they are very colourful so that they can attract a partner. It is just wonderful to see that.

Red Knot/Kanoet.
Here we have 2 times the same kind of bird. The dark one is how it looks in the spring/summer and the lighter coloured one is how it looks in the fall/winter.
