“Being a better person starts with noticing the small things — like a butterfly that didn’t need to impress anyone.”

🦋 No sudden inspiration today…
But here’s the thing:
Even without big words or grand ideas,
I still want to give you something.
Not a present you can unwrap,
but a pause. A breath. A reminder.

That you matter.
That kindness is underrated.
That wisdom doesn’t always shout — sometimes it just lands softly on a leaf.

🧠🌿 In a world where distraction is king, maybe stillness is the real rebellion. Let’s keep learning. Keep growing.
And above all: keep choosing to be just a little more human.

🌸This post includes a short video with a mini-tutorial showing a bit of my editing process. No long explanations — just a little behind-the-scenes peek.

🐾 And something personal…
We have a new family member! A blonde Yorkshire terrier puppy named Snoopy.
Our little black Yorkie, Gaby, is absolutely smitten — they’re becoming best friends.
They play non-stop, and I sometimes have to separate them just so the pup can get some rest. 😴
I’m so happy it’s going well. Two little fluffballs, twice the joy!

BREAKING NEWS FROM THE CREATIVE UNDERGROUND 🗞️

Local photographer caught… making music?! 😱🎶
Sources confirm: she’s not quitting photography – she just couldn’t sit still during the renovation. (Yesterday Official diagnosis: ADHD. Unofficial verdict: creative powerhouse on the loose.) 😅

Last year, she dipped her toes into AI music. The result? Hilariously bad. The credits? Gone in no time.
She let it go… until renovation chaos banished her to a storage room with nothing but a computer and a head full of ideas.

And then she emerged: The Visual DJ 🎧
Armed with DJ software (a gift from Harry), she began editing her AI tracks with her own twist. Videos followed, using stock footage… but that quickly got boring (hello, ADHD). So she dove into AI visuals and landed in a whole new fairytale music clip universe.

⛔️ No, she’s not chasing fame.
⛔️ No, this is not a commercial for her music account.
⛔️ No, there’s no world tour in the making. 🤣
🍀 Yes, photography is still her first love. And no, she’s not replacing it – just adding another creative playground to the mix. 🥰
⛔️ No, she doesn’t post AI as photography❗️
🍀 Yes, she posts when she feels like it – not when the algorithm says so.
🍀 Yes – she doesn’t keep it all to herself. She shares it with anyone who feels the beat, the joy, or just needs a good soundtrack for a reel or post. 🎶

So for those whispering, “What is she up to now?”
Here’s your answer: If it lights you up – welcome aboard. 🩷
If not, that’s perfectly fine. I’ll be over here, making magic anyway. 😉✨

With love (and beats),
Monique – musical photographer, dancing to her own dopamine beat 🎧🖼️

✨ It’s here – a brand-new Photoshop tutorial! ✨

This time, I’m diving into the dreamy world of Bliss – Ambient Glow Overlays by Yasi. And yes… this tutorial is part of a heartwarming collaboration between Yasi and me 💚 We had such a lovely time creating this together – and I’m truly grateful that she made this beautiful overlay set available for my video. It was inspiring, fun, and such a joy to connect.

gallery is absolutely stunning – she creates the most beautiful photos and adds her own unique Photoshop magic to make them glow with atmosphere and emotion. If you don’t know her work yet… go check it out. You’ll fall in love.

People often ask me: How do you do that in photoshop?
Well... what better way to show you than step by step in a video?

This version here is a little compact (hello, Instagram 😅),
but the full-size tutorial is now on my YouTube channel – just hit the link in my bio.

And here’s a little gift for you…
🌿 As a thank you for your sweet support, I’m happy to offer you 20% off everything in Yasi’s shop – overlays, presets, and all kinds of magical editing tools. Share this post with anyone you think should benefit from it.😉😘

💫 And who knows…
If this one is well received, I might just make more tutorials in the future. Let me know if you’d like that!

Let’s bring a little more glow into the world, one photo at a time ✨

Animals understand each other without saying a word.
People talk a lot without understanding each other.

Animals:
👀 exchange a look
🦊 feel the atmosphere
🐘 just understand each other

Humans:
🗣️ “Wait… what do you mean?”
🙄 “You never listen!”
🤯 three hours later: arguing about absolutely nothing

And yet we call ourselves the superior species?
Please… I’ll take the animal kingdom any day.
Now that’s true royalty. 👑💛

🌿 “The wiser the soul, the fewer the words.”
— said every animal, silently. 😉

Coming back to Instagram after a long break feels a bit like being thrown into a bumper car ride before you’ve had your morning coffee…

After months of renovations, moving furniture around, dust inhalation, and trying to find myself somewhere between the chaos and the cardboard boxes, I thought:
“Let’s open Instagram again.”

Well. That algorithm looked at me like I was an ex trying to make a comeback.
And me? I felt like I’d walked into a noisy festival with flashing lights and dance moves I clearly hadn’t rehearsed.

Scrolling, liking, posting, reels, DMs, stories... it overwhelmed me in no time.
And my brain just whispered: Can I please lie in a field and stare at flowers?

So here’s this flower. No drama, no filters, just quietly blooming in the middle of the madness.
Kind of like me. Well... me with a slightly shorter fuse these days (sorry Harry 😬).

🛠 The new floor is in, but it still needs grouting — in July.
So until then, our furniture is camping out elsewhere, and I’m dreaming of something called... normal life.

✨ The good news? I have a little surprise for you.
Something actually useful. Not an AI trick, not a spiritual glitter mist.
Something that you can use.
If the universe behaves, I’ll post it this weekend.

With love,
Monique, the algorithm-allergic flower whisperer 🌸

Last year I had taken flower bulbs with me from a flower garden. This is the tompouce Tulip, and this year it was beautiful in our own garden. I quickly took some pictures of it in between the chores. Don’t you think it’s cute with these colors?

First visit of the year to the butterfly garden! I had (of course) missed the opening… so most of the plants were still freshly trimmed. It felt a bit bare, but there I was again, happily walking in circles with my camera, hunting for tiny miracles.

Something that caught my eye: quite a few butterflies lying on the ground. And yes... I’m that person who gently picks them up (not by the wings!). That’s when a biologist joined me. You know the type — starts glowing the second you ask a butterfly question.

I asked, “Did this one hibernate? He looks so old and worn.” Or maybe it’s the result of little grabby hands?

“Nope,” he said enthusiastically. “These don’t hibernate. And the torn wings? That’s a good sign. It means this butterfly is old. He’s had a long life — something he wouldn’t have survived in the wild.”

And just like that, I was half an hour deep into stories about cocoons, nectar recipes, and tropical climate control systems. 🍃

By then, the garden had filled up with people (I could feel the tour buses arriving), and I knew it was my cue to leave.

So here it is: my first butterfly photo of 2025. Not perfect. Not shiny. But definitely a butterfly with a story. Not mine — his. You can read it in his worn wings.

✨ Sometimes it’s the scars that show just how far we’ve come.

🦋Orange-tip alert (or well... orange-tip no-show).
This dreamy little butterfly is a golden oldie from the archives. I missed them this year – probably fluttering around on a way better schedule than mine. But hey, 2026 is coming, and my photography bucket list is already getting some love.

In the meantime, I’ve been getting my Zen on with a paintbrush in hand. Started with priming the window frames — with all the grace of a stiff flamingo. My hands and wrists are gently protesting (because apparently, I’m not 25 anymore… unless we’re talking inner age — then I’m basically a teenager.🤪

The finishing coat? I’ll handle that later with a little paint roller and a lot of patience. No pressure, no rush. Just on my Mon’s Time.
Oh — and yesterday my Portuguese neighbours were playing lovely music, so I threw in a dance or two between coats. Pretty sure I heard the neighbour singing along too. The sun was out. Life was good.

💭 Quote of the day:
“Patience is trust without stress. And honestly, it paints a lot smoother.”

Yes, she’s back... she’s back with yet another flower photo!
This little beauty caught my eye during a grocery run (because yes, inspiration can even come between bananas and bread). So of course I went back with my camera - when the itch comes, you shoot.

In the meantime, the house is still one big renovation mess. But hey - we’re already halfway there! The roof of the extension is back on, the new floor is in. Harry himself has been busy plastering the interior walls. And I’m painting now. But the workmen are away, so I can manage my own time, and finally sneak out to do some photography.

I had an unexpected night in the hospital, a few morphine shots up my backside (posh, I know), and the diagnosis: ‘a gallstone from the liver’. That was quite a shock, since I had my gallbladder removed last year and thought that was it. Apparently not. Life loves plot twists.

We had booked a week’s holiday last year, not knowing that the renovation would take so long, so we put everything on hold and had a wonderful week of relaxation. We were blessed with beautiful weather. However, I had decided not to take my camera. We did go drone flying with Harry’s drone.

I have missed so much of the beautiful spring days and everything that offers itself there. But I am not going to sulk about it, life goes on doesn’t it.. I am way behind with posting my photos: these snowdrops have long since disappeared from nature! But hey, I’m sharing one anyway. Because let’s be honest, I haven’t had much time to take photos lately... and yes, that makes me a bit grumpy.

The good news is that the renovation is on schedule, Harry has also been busy all day with wheelbarrows of rubble to the container. In the meantime, one is already full. A new one will arrive on Monday.

Hopefully I can pick up the photos when the chaos of the renovation is over. I hope I can secretly take a photo walk this weekend: there is no construction going on, so that’s my moment!

In my own garden, the tulips are growing like crazy, but there are no open buds yet. I have planted Tompouce tulips (yes, yellow and pink!) and Parrot tulips. I am very curious to see them bloom. Then I just have to figure out how to photograph them, because the garden is full of building materials.

How are you?

Monique 💋
