Sunset sessions like this always feel a bit unpredictable but it is só much fun! Everyone running around in the water, changing light and those quick moments you only get once.

The little hands and the way they still reach for you... It’s all changing faster than you think.

Summer sessions are limited.

When is the best time for a city photoshoot this summer?

In large cities like Utrecht, Amsterdam and other busy places, early morning before 8am is the sweet spot. The streets are still quiet, the light is soft and everything just feels calm before the day picks up speed.

It’s the ideal moment for family photoshoots in the city. No crowds in the background, no rushing between people, just space to slow down and capture real connection.

My last tulip post of the season, and I could not imagine a better way to close it than with Milandi Van Den Heever.

This one feels a little different. Not just because of the flowers or the light, but because of her. She was my very first friend in Woerden. We arrived in the Netherlands at the same time and spent our first months here almost every day together, trying to figure out all the small things that come with starting over in a new country.

Cycling through school traffic with bikes loaded full of groceries. Sorting out drivers licenses and learning how to drive on the other side of the road. Finding schools for our kids. Taking the train for the first time and hunting for the cheapest clothing stores. Figuring out groceries and slowly learning the Dutch names for everything. Laughing together, crying together and building life piece by piece.

Furnishing our homes, going on late night bike rides, and Milandi always showing up with a bottle of wine so we could sit somewhere and watch the sunset like we had all the time in the world.

And now here she is, in the tulip fields, doing something just for herself.
Quiet, simple and beautiful.

Tulip season ended weeks ago, but I’m clearly not done talking about it yet.

I still have far too many photos sitting in folders waiting to be shared and choosing favourites has been nearly impossible. Every shoot felt different. Different light, different families, different little moments that somehow all deserve their own place here.

This season was busy in the best possible way. Muddy shoes, freezing evenings (yeah, don’t let those short sleeves fool you), golden sunsets, kids running through the rows, wind destroying hair within seconds and me constantly saying “just one more photo” about a million times.

But mostly, I just feel grateful.

Thank you to everyone who booked a session, shared my work, tagged their friends, left kind comments & google reviews and trusted me to capture their memories this tulip season. I know there are só many photographers out there, so the fact that people keep choosing me still means more than I can properly put into words.

The best decision in a family shoot is not about convenience, it is about timing.

We kept this little one awake a bit longer so we could catch that golden hour light, and it was absolutely worth it. The sun dropped into that soft, warm glow, everything calmed down visually, and suddenly the whole session felt like it belonged in a memory instead of just a photo.

Stefanie is an aupair from South Africa and her host family gifted her this photoshoot at the Tulip Barn for her birthday. She invited along a friend she made here in the Netherlands and we had so much fun together.

Laughing so hard our bellies hurt. Running through the tulips, talking nonsense, constantly interrupting each other because everyone had something to say at the same time.

A few minutes with these girls honestly felt like food for my soul.

This was my 2nd time photographing Mariette, and this time in the tulip fields at The Tulip Barn. It really felt like we just picked up where we left off. No awkward warm-up, no getting to know you phase, just straight into laughing like kids and that familiar kind of chaos that feels more like friendship than a shoot.

We were running through rows of colour like kids who forgot what time it is, stopping only when we needed to catch our breath from laughing too much.

At one point she casually pulls out a toothbrush for her branding photos because she is a dental hygienist, and suddenly I am trying to compose a frame while we are both completely losing it. I never thought I would be standing in tulips photographing someone holding a toothbrush, but somehow it just made perfect sense in the best way.
