I don’t really know what to do with the fact that I spent the last 16 years building a career and signature style on my use of bright, clean light and color - but currently the onnnly thing that satisfies my creative heart is the MOODIEST of black and whites. But here we are, so enjoy. 😆 I had a hard time choosing a favorite of this set- do you have one?

Max and Chloe - Prom 2023
Aren’t they the cutest?! I can’t believe how fast this guy is is growing up before my eyes. 🥹 I couldn’t be prouder of him!

The biggest surprise was when Chloe’s parents coincidentally were across the street from our photoshoot watching a dance competition- their reaction to seeing her dad walk up the sidewalk was TOO good!😂

ONE THING ABOUT ME is
I’m totally the worst
at editing and posting
my personal work.
So then I look back
In my arrrchiiives
And cry over images
I forgot I took. 🙃

If you decide to road trip with this girl, I can guarantee 2 things: I’ll steal your treats and make you pull over whenever I see something pretty. I couldn’t help but stop in Bolstadøyri - it’s the most charming town and these two images alone were well worth the detour!

There are a handful of things that I’ve never found the mom secret to- a good laundry schedule, healthy cereal that my kids will actually eat, or how to keep toddlers from turning caprisuns into miniature geysers!

But I’m thankful to have found the perfect mom AND tween approved tv show. And you KNOW what a struggle that one is. It seems that most popular shows geared toward my daughters teach them that their value is measured by what they’re wearing, how popular they are and if boys like them. The female characters are usually stereotypical combinations of either popular/shallow, funny/ditsy, smart/nerdy (and don’t get me started on the parents).

Enter , a show about a girl named Ruby who moves to the little town of Emerald, finds a mysterious old well on her property. The well gives her the ability to see the struggles and heartbreaks of people in Emerald and Ruby has the chance to restore hope to the community through brave acts of service, kindness and love. I love that Ruby is smart, courageous, caring, resilient and a loyal friend - all qualities I hope for in my own daughters. Plus, the quaint setting is giving me all the Stars Hollow vibes and it’s streaming FREE on online and on the app!

The show, the beautiful launch party and meeting (the real life Ruby!) was a resounding 10/10 for my girls, my mom and me! And look at these two strong girls. 🥺 They deserve the best role models and your girls do too!

Living Water

“But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.”

John 14:4

Water.
Essential to life and to growth.
Nourishes,
Cleanses,
Soothes.

Living water cannot be stagnant, but is always moving and has constant rhythms.

I think Jesus is like that.

As part of the conversion process to Judaism, one becomes pure by immersing in a mikvah, a pool of “mayim chaim.” But in the absence of a mikvah, the ocean (or a flowing body of water) can be used in its place.

REFUGE

I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.

Psalm 91:2, Isaiah 25:4

When I look at this image, it reminds me of the words to the hymn Where Can I Turn for Peace:
“Where can I turn for peace?
Where is my solace
When other sources cease to make me whole?”

I can’t help but think of the many times Christ has been my refuge when I had nowhere else to turn, when I was simply out of options. When the chaos and storms of the world swirled about me, blowing through my hair, stinging my cheeks, threatening to destroy my peace. In Christ there is quiet, there is calm, there is clarity, there is rest.

“Jess. This is YOU.”

It was the first thing a dear friend said to me when I handed her a hot-off-the-press copy of this project. And nothing has felt more true about a collection of images I’ve made.

Creating this series has allowed me to visually explore the names and symbols of Christ and what they uniquely teach us about who He is. I anticipated that this project would challenge me artistically and it certainly did. But the sweetest outcome was that in the process of creating these images, I began to look for God everywhere. In the people I knew, the beauty of nature, in upcoming travels and even in places I had already been- there He was.

My hope is that through our continued efforts to know El Roi, “The God Who Sees Me,” that we may in turn become The Women Who See Him. Women who see His character in others, who see his hand in all things and who see ourselves as He does, through eyes made new.

Deep breath. I’m so thrilled to finally to be sharing the images I created as the featured artist for ’s April ‘22 general conference workbook. To Rio, to the family, and each on you who are supporting me here, thank you for allowing me the opportunity to share these little pieces of my soul and my testimony of Jesus Christ with you.

Honestly, this time of year sucks the creativity right out of my soul and chucks it into the proverbial garbage disposal. Dramatic? A little. Accurate? A lot. But this slow, in between season makes finding a pocket of gorgeous light, a new baby bump and feeling that tiny spark of creative breath flowing back into my body all the more sweet.

Be patient, February me.
Springtime is coming.
Letting these images be my gentile reminder that maybe some form of new life is just around the corner.

Psst! Which one is your favorite? I couldn’t pick.

In the bleak midwinter
Frosty wind made moan
Earth stood hard as iron
Water like a stone
Snow had fallen
Snow on snow on snow
In the bleak midwinter
Long, long ago

Angels and Arc Angels
May have traveled there
Cherubim and Seraphim
Thronged the air
But only his Mother
In her maiden bliss
Worshiped the beloved
With a kiss

What can I give him?
Poor as I am
If I were a shepherd
I would give a lamb
If I were a wise man
I would do my part
But what I can I give him
Give him my heart
