Consider this my love letter to Oceanic white tips, sun rays, blue water and most of all silly little pilot fish.

One of those shots I’ve been after for years is a blue shark or oceanic with just a squad of 10 pilot fish. But when you find these sharks in the deep blue, every encounter is a bit of bottled magic.

I’m not bored of orca photos yet. This was the end of the 6 hour feeding event from this season, only and I were still going, the partner vessel had switched to paddle boarding. I kept sharing these two curious juveniles with the paddle boarders, as they would bump them and then come down to check me out freediving below.

Arctic magic.

When big island hits it HITS, spotted this blow on the horizon and what followed was one of the best ocean days. My first time seeing s***m whales and this whole pod was incredibly social and curious for hours, this individual came by exceptionally close and then turned around and gave us a second pass.

We spent most of the day observing them topside so they could rest and socialize unbothered, can’t wait to see more of these in Dominica in February!

Been holding back my favorite orca portrait from this last trip. I was the only person in the water to the horizon, this juvenile went back and forth a number of times coming within an arms reach again and again. Best orca interaction to date.

This type of interaction is special but not the baseline, I’ve spent three weeks in the Arctic each of the last two seasons to maximize chances of an interaction like this. Hundreds of drops, all beautiful in their own way but not quite as special as this. You won’t see anything if you don’t go out, but be ready to try again and again.

Still processing this year’s migration to the Arctic, already prepping for next year. This has turned into the trip I look forward to the most each year, because you every encounter feels earned. The temperature, the weather, the amount of boat traffic, and the animals themselves make nothing guaranteed. It’s an addicting environment to dive into, especially if you can get off the map and away from the crowds.

As a bonus there’s whales, lots and lots of whales.

The light in arctic goes hard, I prefer late October and early November to have the longest days but no matter what sunsets and sunrise up here seem to go on for hours.

A school of herring creates a window around a lions mane jellyfish in the arctic circle.

These balls of herring are the reason for all of the life here, they come as part of their annual migration to rest and shelter from predation before spawning (not very successfully I might add) and come in such numbers that they can completely fill the fjords.

Juvenile orca portrait
November 1st, 2025

Last season in Norway was amazing, but this year was a whole different level of insane. I think spending several weeks out here, really dialing in how to be successful settings wise, and a lot of great help understanding these animals behavior year after year has really made a step change improvement in the results. I love it here. Can’t wait for the next trip out.

To set expectations this type of shot is not typical of the conditions here, this was the brightest sun I’ve ever seen here in November, the perfectly curious individual, and i was the only guest in the water for over a mile to have 100% of this animals interest.

Thank you to and helping set me up perfectly for this! Only possible from a treasure trove of experience and be willing to truly go where others aren’t.

Humpback whales appearance in the annual Norwegian herring migration, creates a spectacular but potentially dangerous component of this spectacle. Out of nowhere, you’ll see a flash of white fins and then a black shadow will appear right in front of you with a 40 ton animal lunging through a bait ball.

One more reason to avoid a drysuit up here, mobility keeps you not crushed! Very happy to get a feeding shot of one, can’t wait for next season!

A small break from Arctic content to remind everyone that nature is metal, most shark photos you see involve bait, and apex predators are cool as hell.
