Can you stage an at home maternity shoot? Yes, yes you can.
Some tips to help you out if you’re pregnant and wanting to capture these precious memories now...
1. Choose a room with plenty of natural light coming in the window and a time of day when it’s bright. If you have sheer curtains pull them across to diffuse the light. If your house is quite dark, stand in front of a window instead. Turn off the lights in the room as you don’t want unnecessary shadows or unflattering downlighting
2. If you have a camera choose an aperture of around 2.8 to be a little forgiving of imperfections in your background. Make sure your exposure correct without your shutter speed going below approx 1/500 especially if you’re shooting with a child involved. Increase your ISO if need be to achieve this.
3. If you don’t have a camera, use portrait mode on your iPhone (or equivalent other brand) - you can set your f.stop to 2.8 even! You don’t need a fancy camera to get some good images!
4. Make sure your background is as simple as possible...think a plain wall avoiding light switches, a window with sheer curtains, French doors...there’s always a space in your home that will work I promise!
5. Go for it and capture far more than you need so that you have some options to choose from! If you can edit you don’t need my advice- but if you don’t have a clue where to start you can use an instagram filter- just be sure to use the minimum needed! Some of the black and white options in your iPhone will do the trick too! Or download Lightroom- have a bit of a play or purchase a preset from online (like instagram filters but better). But really...you shouldn’t need to do too much and black and white can be so effective! 💕
