Celebrating a truly wonderful milestone 🌺My beautiful Aunty Ofania’s 90th birthday! I wanted to commemorate this milestone with a timeless portrait of her surrounded with flowers from our family garden.

As the 7th child of 17 children, born in 1935, she’s a beacon of love, resilience, family legacy and timeless beauty. With 15 of her siblings now gone, it’s just my mum ~number 17~ and Aunty Ofania remaining making these moments even more precious.

Wearing a dress she bought for her 70th birthday, vibrant niuean kahoa hihi and featuring gorgeous hydrangeas from my backyard, each photographed 1 by 1 and edited into the portrait the old fashioned way…with my hands. It’s my greatest honour to create heirloom artworks like this.

Being an experienced photographer is knowing how to reinvent your surroundings from a different lens. The technical lighting and camera settings are all entry level, the skill is making the setup feel effortless.

This photoshoot in collaboration with Nora Swann was organised at her fashion based office space where I incorporated a few office and fashion runway items to compliment wardrobe curated by Nora. The pink top was not part of the wardrobe plan as our client had travelled from Christchurch to Auckland earlier that morning in it. However, I was drawn to the flower wall in Nora’s office and asked our client if she wouldn’t mind taking a few shots before changing. I’m glad we gave it a “try” straight from hair and makeup because this set up turned out beautifully in her travel wear 😊

I was privileged to photograph 89 year old, The Honourable Mititaiagimene Young Vivian CNZM NDSC in his village of Hakupu, Niue. His spirit reminds me why I love what I do - and capturing moments on his ancestral land makes it all the more meaningful. Preserving these portraits is truly a labour of love, and I hope to honour the vibrant history of Niue through my work. These timeless memories will never fade.

I had the honour of photographing 100-year-old Harry Jackson, the last of his generation and Niue’s oldest living national.

I feel a deep sense of responsibility and privilege in preserving his legacy with dignity.

This portrait is a beautiful reminder to cherish each day and enjoy the seasons that shape our lives.
