How did I get into photography?
Photography has been part of me for as long as I can remember. As a kid, Iâd sneak my mumâs film camera, study photos in books, and try to recreate themâonly for her to get the film processed and wonder what the heck she was looking at. đ
That obsession led me to study Fine Arts at Rhode Island School of Design in USA and in Christchurch, but my real education came laterâspending five years as a lighting assistant and digi operator for an incredible photographer here in Auckland. Thatâs where I fell in love with lighting, learning how to shape and control it until an image felt just right.
From there, I jumped headfirst into commercial photography, working with ad agencies and major retailers in Auckland and London. Iâve always been drawn to the technical challengeâreflective surfaces, glass, shiny makeup and water. The way light moves through them, bends around them and shapes them. â¨
Even with AI-driven content evolving so fast and having so many more tools on hand to help us achieve the desired outcome- Iâm still about achieving the shot in camera, itâs still the same thing thatâs always hooked me: creating images that stop you in your tracks.
